maverick_2414 I just bought a used 99 with 70k on it. The first thing I did was go to Advance Auto and got 4 cans of Bumper/Trim paint in flat black. Looks like a new Jeep now! Maverick in GA

AcidRaiN I used to have an 04 and an 07 Avalanche. They used a product called "gatorback" to help keep the bed covers black. Those covers were also plastic.

toplessartist If you don't want to go the paint route I have had some good results with "Mother's Back to Black". Some here will tell you it is a waste, like Armor All, but I was/am pleased with the results on both the plastic and the black metal (bumpers)... it has lasted thru multiple pressure washings and three solid weeks of rain plus two back country trips. Still looks pretty good. If you haven't keep up with this unnecessary detail since you bought the Jeep you may be beyond using this kind of solution and might have to go right to the can of Krylon!

Good luck, and post before/after pics!!

05GT-O.C.D. You're right, it's not black chrome - it's black plastic. I got sick of the routine armor all treatments and painted mine w/ a flat black paint that's specifically made for plastic bumpers. It looks OEM.

jdhallissey On the stock flares best thing to do is tape them off real good and spray them with black paint. OF course clean them real well. and light sand paper then primer and paint. It will hold it's black color for a good while. If you don't want to go through that much work just yet. armorall works well for about a week. Peanut butter also works for about a week. Wipe on the creamy peanut butter then wipe off in 5 mins or so.

Black chrome?

Greetings all,

I have a 1997 Wrangler and as many Jeeps, it has what I call black chrome. Actually, I think it's a plastic. This is used for the stock fender flares and on the ends of both bumpers.

I bought this Jeep new, for my wife, and over the years the black faded. I bought a new soft top for her last year and now I would like to deal with the black chrome.

Is there a product that might turn these items back to shine or am I stuck with either living with it or replacing them.

I have more toys than I can support, so if there is a product and a trick to refresh this stuff, I would rather do that.

Thanks in advance for any help you folks might be.
