We have 2 Jeeps and I love our 2010 2 door, also have a 74 CJ5 with no doors!. I'm coming around to the 4 door idea, but don't think I would ever buy one. Personal opinion, but if I wanted 4 doors I would by a Cherokee/Suburban/Eploder type of vehicle. We have an extended cab truck for hauling things when needed or trips where we need extra room for more than just the four of us.
Now that the oldest is semi-dating, its nice not having the extra room so we can go do things with family members only. Sorry, no room for the girlfriend this time, mom wants to take the Jeep.
It doesn't help much with people, but have you thought about a roof rack to haul things for a trip? Frees up that other spot in the back.

I have no regrets with my JKR. It does everything I want it to do.
That being said...I'm trying to talk my wife into a JKUR so she'll stop begging to drive my Jeep...
There's a method to my madness...

|GutWrench||I traded my Nissan Crew cab 4x4 for a 2 door because I was tired of fighting the extra length and crappy turn radius. I test drove a few Unlimiteds and they were cool, but I liked the pep and agility of the 2 door. I also like to stand out. Pretty much every JK I see in my area is an Unlimited outfitted exactly the same as all the rest. It's pretty boring actually.|

I think the Unlimited looks absolutely GREAT with body-color fenders and hardtop, on a lift with 35s. Like a mini-Gelaendewagon. Sweet looking Jeep.
The one below may not have a body colored HT and fenders, but in black it could pass for one.
I just don't think they look like a Wrangler/CJ. Which is fine. I love the way built XJ Cherokees look. I love the way built Commanders look. They all look like Jeeps to me. But they don't look like Wrangler/CJs.
For whatever reason, I don't like the look of Unlimiteds nearly as much with soft top on, and even less with all 4 doors removed. And worst of all is an Unlimited with the Sunrider top pushed back. I'm totally happy for everybody who has one, and not casting aspersions at you. I just think aesthetically that is a hot mess of a design.

Opinions will vary, but this is my 2 cents worth.
1. They have more power, because of less weight.
2. Better fuel economy, because of less weight.
3. Better braking capability, because of less weight.
4. Less wear and tear on the power train, and undercarriage, less weight.
5. Easier to park, and maneuver.
6. Cost less.
7. The 2 door,(which has the real Jeep look), just looks better than the 4 door, (just my opinion)!
Some will not agree with any of this, but, that's O.K.....

|computeruser6||I don't like the way the four-door looks, two doors just seem to fit better on a Jeep to me. I also like the maneuverability of the two door better, tighter U-turns, easier parallel parking, less weight, and lower price. I do wish it was just a few inches longer. I guess my favorite size would be a TJ Unlimited. At least when I take the back seat out I have a decent amount of cargo space.|

When all else fails, throw on the cargo carrier and away you go.

I traded my Escalade for a JKU (first Jeep). Even with the extra doors, it drives exactly like I wanted my Jeep to drive, and surprisingly I don't feel like I lost much in the way if storage room.
Perfect for me!

|scott m 72||It would be nice to see a stretched 2 door JK like the LJ.|
|06-27-2014 09:28 AM|
|KC_Hawker||Ok, I will be the dissenting voice. I am about 50/50 on JK vs JK after buying 2 JKs. I love my little JK, how it accelerates, turns, and scoots around. I dont need the extra seats (I took my backseat out) but, most of the Jeep builds I really love are overlanders. JKUs have more room to store things, better add ons to help hold things and are big enough to sleep inside if you car camp.|

4 door????????? JEEP??????????
Just another SUV in JEEP's clothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If others want to ride in a JEEP.................there are plenty of JEEP dealers around!

I felt the same way for a while after buying my 12' JK Auto 2dr.
But then the longer I had it, the more I enjoyed driving my little 2dr with the 3.73 gears.
Kids are grown and out of the house(last one out was 3 weeks before JK purchase) and I do not need the extra passenger room.
After owning my 2dr for over 2 years, I had a chance to rent a 13' JKU Auto Sport when I was in Oahu a few months ago, and the extra room was nice but it just did not respond like my little 2dr. Acceleration, handling, everything seemed slower, and more sluggish. Probably had 3.21 gears. The 4dr did a U-turn in about the same distance as my 02'RAM 1500 quad cab! Maybe not that bad, but it seemed like it, coming from my 2dr. I wanted my 2dr back and felt so much better about buying the 2dr after my rental experience.
Go rent a 4dr and you'll see what I mean.
If you need the extra room, their great. Just not needed in my case.
I had a chance to drive a Hertz rental CJ5 back in 1978 for the summer and it was blast! I always said I was going to buy one some day and I did. I am glad it was a 2dr, because it brought all the old memories back of driving that CJ that the JKU just did not provide.

|socal-jk||Its just my wife and I so absolutely no regrets getting the 2dr. Back seat hasnt been installed in a year and a half. I like the SWB for tight trails, and for break over.|

Love my 2 door get creative packing it have a cargo carrier when I need to bring more stuff

If they ever make the nukizer 715, I will switch to that 2 door immediately.

My brother (who has 5 kids) once said:
"the more kids you have, the more a two seater makes sense".
Took me a bit to get the meaning, but cracks me up every time I think of it now.
Tereflex has a good video on YouTube (they have a bunch of really great videos ) that shows a few of the advantages of 2 door and 4 door for off road use. Cool comparison because it is so visual.
Both JK and JKU are awesome. Looks wise, I like the two door better. It's just too small to work for me. I wouldn't trade my JKU for anything. I am a bit envious of those who fit the 2 door life style though.

|RoadiJeff||My wife and I think the 4-dr looks too stretched. Our 2-dr with the rear seat removed leaves plenty of room to carry things. We occasionally take it to the drive-in and there's enough room to have the rear facing the screen and lay in the back and watch a double feature. We're doing that again tomorrow night.|

|ratmotortom||Bought a 2 door, never looked back. Just ordered another one. When we travel, we fill it up. A full Jeep is a fun Jeep !!|
|06-26-2014 07:44 AM|
Took the back seat out of my 2 door 3rd day I had it. It sits in the basement ever since. In fact, I installed a Jeep Backbone cargo deck, so the seat won't fit anymore.
But if I wanted to do a longer trip in the Jeep, and needed to carry more than I could in the cargo area, I'd stick one of those hitch-mount cargo baskets on back, giving me another 500 pounds of capacity. Trailer would be nice but I don't want to try and store it the rest of the time.
Mostly, I've learned (from being an ultralight backpacker) that I don't need to take 3/4 of the stuff I think I need to take places.

|4DoorCrush||I'm bias since I have 4 door. Going to get crap for this but I don't like the looks of 2 door jeep. Just me and the wife. no kids and don't plan on any|
|06-26-2014 07:22 AM|
Jeeps come with 4 doors? Huh?
Got my first Jeep 2 door about a month ago, not a single regret. I will never not own one again. This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. We are a family of 3 and have a Honda Pilot for the family trips that require a lot of gear. Trips to the cottage we just load it up, drop the top and go!
|06-26-2014 07:18 AM|
|wingerdinger151||Havent regretted it yet. So far I have not run out of room. The rear seat is folded up more than it is locked in its position. I can fit golf clubs, by ball bag, a dog... and whatever else I need. I'm not married, dont have kids and hardly have any use for the back seat. And for the amount of times that I might ever need the extra room of a four door, it just isnt worth the extra 7 or 8 grand. The 2 door just looks right. when the 07 JKU's were unveiled I thought "that just isnt a Jeep." While they have grown on me as being a practical substitution for families and the such, I still think that a real Jeep has only 2 doors|
|06-26-2014 07:08 AM|
|Freedom JK||I have a 4 door and I love it. I always loved Jeeps but I would not get one because a 2 door was too impractible for me. I have a wife and two kids so the 4 door is perfect.|
|06-26-2014 07:02 AM|
Nope. No kids, and all my friends have their own Jeeps.
I don't like the look of a 4 door at all.
|06-26-2014 05:52 AM|
|BagerX2||Had a 2-door and loved it. It was wrecked so decided to try a 4-door this time around. I regret getting the 4-door and would trade it for a 2-door again in a second if I could do it without losing my shirt. Hopefully next year I can go back to a 2-door.|

|Graves||Having driven a 2 door JK and owning a 4 door, the 2 door is much more fun but the practicality of the 4 door can't be beat. Then again, with square headlights and 4 doors, I don't own "real" jeeps so my post is invalid . Seriously the 2 door is a blast to drive so if you're wanting "fun", stick with the 2 door. The 4-door feels vastly different.|
