OverkillYJ The most important thing with adding leafs or rebuilding them is to make sure you get the little plastic slips in there. You also do not want to restrict their movement. Those little slips are what let the metal leaves slide against each other without stopping. Without them the springs will bind up easier, and also ride stiffer. Same happens if you clamp it too much or too tight. So if you cut and make your own, just make sure you drill them and make them exactly like if you bought a leaf.

Doesnt matter to me anyways though, no matter how I did it I would have bent that leaf. Fortunately it was only one and not two.

As far as the rubicon leafs, they will give you 1"-2" of lift when added. A good shop could make them stock height with the extra leaf if you wanted though.

No I'm not in that board. I'm just getting back into the groove. I've been without a Jeep for a few years, sold the red one in the pic and started a new project. I'm pretty much done with the new project and ready to hit some trails( soon as I get it smogged and some stickers). I'll post a pic of the new one as soon as I can get it out. Was long hard project and I'm glad I can finally see the end. Now I just need to find some folks to hit the trail with.

I didnt use an add a leaf. Overkill did.

Ok I'm going to but in because your comment interested me. I have SOA on stock springs and have been thinking about the Rubicon Express springs for strength but don't want the extra lift. Did the add a leaf lift it at all? What type of add a leaf did you use? And do you know of a good spring shop in Sacramento that does the military wrap?

Norcal_Chris Yj leaves are short. Some dodges use an upsidedown eye like that but they are long. I would get another main amd have a spring shop do a military wrap on them. Thats gonna be the best way to keep from bending them

The only thing the upside down eye does is give less lift my a small amount

A spring clamp on the main and that add a leaf may have prevented that as well. I use the bend over tab ones and I drive like a blind man sometimes and my springs are holding up great.

OverkillYJ Did that last time I hit something. Too much money for the work. If I was going to spend that I would just buy new springs.

OverkillYJ The only thing I like about those is that when they flex all the way they do not bend backwards as far. Seems it would be less stressful on the springs. My regular ones have lasted fine since I did them about a year ago. I just figure if I could pull that style off something for $50 at a yard I would give them a shot. Especially since I need to pull these apart anyway at this point.

Ibuildembig Nothing factory is made that way that I have ever seen. I don't see where they get off calling them soa specific since every 4x4 truck made has the springs on top and they aren't wound that way.

Main leaf for SOA

So does anyone know where I can get the Rubicon style main leaf? Is there another vehicle I could pull that style off that would fit my YJ spring pack up front. If you notice I already have the Rubicon full length add a leaf added to my springs. I damaged my main spring after hitting a stump covered in mud on Saturday. I could get a stock set of springs from someone for cheap and replace the main leaf from those, but I would rather get the other style since they are designed specifically for spring over applications. I would like to stay around the same height, but if I gained an inch that would be ok too. If there was a way for me to do this front and back that would be nice too. I am not going to buy the Rubicon SOA leafs, and if it end up being nothing will fit I will just have to replace it with what I already had in there. They flexed awesome.
