If you have a 2.5 it's 15 and a metal tank. A 4.2 is 20 and is most likely a poly tank. The 89 15 gal. tank can't be modded for 20. In the past, the tank could have been replaced. When almost empty, how much gas can you put in? If approx. 13 gals. you have the 15. Even if you have a 4.2, the inexpensive replacement tank to put was a 15 gal. metal tank. Original 4.2's will have 20.

Gas Tank Size

Trying to replace the fuel pump, tank, ect in my 89 YJ....Noticed there are 15 and 20 gallon tanks...how do I tell which I have???
