In my driveway right now there's an '06 TJ Rubicon and a '13 Unlimited 10A Rubicon.
You're right about the power being higher up in the RPM's so it's a different feel, but the extra 95HP is nice too. I really like my JK but I haven't had it off road yet. It does feel like a more well-rounded drivetrain that doesn't "run out of breath" so quickly. Highways are a pleasure, which is a nice change.
BTW, both are 6MT with 4.10's.

|blankster||I just sold my 2004 TJ sport 4.0 that I had for 6 years and loved it. I sold it for just about what I paid for it 6 years ago! With the TJ I did a little off-roading but generally it was a vehicle that my kids used to drive around town. But over time my wife and I found us using it more and more. We liked our Wrangler so much, we ordered a 2014 Sport thats loaded. The JK is a bit larger and has more creature comforts so that is why we decided to go for the 2014. I plan retire soon and go from 3 vehicles to 2 and the JK will be my daily driver (my current daily driver is a Cadillac CTS). In terms of reliability the TJ is bullet-proof. No real problems for 6+ years! The only weak point I found was the brakes which I upgraded with the best rotors and pads from Raybestos. Problem solved. I also added the Goodyear Duratracs and Rubicon wheels which are great tires. Again I think the TJ and JK are different vehicles. The TJ is more utility and the JK is more well-rounded in terms if comfort and features. For pure off-roading I would go TJ. For best all-around for off-roading and some road trips I think the JK is better.|

|LimeTJ||Owned a TJ and now a 2 door JK. Both used as a DD 90% of the time. TJ was a stick shift 4 banger. I actually got it into 6th gear one time. I was going down a mountainside with a tailwind. My JK is an automatic rag top and, for me, is the perfect 4 wheeled motorcycle. Also the perfect DD and mall cruiser. If the TJ had been a 6 cylinder, I would still own it.|

|DC Dennis||For a DD, the JK. Much more refined and comfortable. But, for offroading the 4.0 rocks, mods are cheaper, entry price is cheaper, and thus I would recommend the TJ.|

|sawtooth||For now more DD but in year or so more off roading. I have a friend that just picked up a new 4 door Ruby and he loves it. Hasn't been off roading yet though.|

I've owned both and loved them both.
Best advice .... Drive both.
Yes ... The 3.8/3.6 in the jk both lack low end but make up for it later in the power range.
Gearing plays a big role in power done low.

TJ or JK
Guys im getting ready to buy a wrangler. How are you liking the new engines? I have read where some say they don't have the low end torque like the 4.0L. Is this true? Please list plus and minuses about these two wranglers. Thank you. Plan to buy a 2 door Ruby.
