AllMudd Yes I used the middle hole. Once I save up enough $ for an SYE and new driveshaft I'll switch it to the front hole. This way it will give me a lower driveshaft angle hopefully.

Looking great!

So did you end up using the the middle hole on the spring perches? It looks like it in the picture, but just wondering. Great thread and great pics. Looks like you do good work. Keep it up!

AllMudd Ah trust me I've gone over it three times here at the house. But my buddy that was helping is a great guy and mechanic. And we are able to do stuff under pressure well being in the Military so we took the challenge head on and conquered it!

AllMudd Finally got he time and someone to help me weld it all together. It's in and runs smooth! Glad to finally be back on the road. Didn't get pics of the re-install because the shop I was at was closing and the guy comes to me and says. Hey y'all gonna be done in 30 mins we close then. Well needless to say it was NASCAR style Jeep reassemble! Took 30 mins to prime paint carry bolt down hook shocks up re attach drive shaft and hook up brake lines. Oh and also clean shop and return tools! We did it, though all we had to do was bleed the brakes again and off we were. And I wanted to say that I welded some if the axle so a quick crash course on it and I welded the shik brackets on. Not to bad if I do say so myself.

AllMudd Take your time with it and use all reliable resources! Make sure if you want an LSD look at the door panel and get the D2(4.10 gears) or D4(3.73 gears). And I haven't rebuilt it yet with the exception if the PB. I'm saving more & for 4.56 gears and he install kit. It is a precision Jon to regear but I'm looking at doing this myself too. Just another thing to take the time on and not rush it.

Meshugga Thanks for all the pictures! I'm buying a 8.8 next month to prepare it for install in my 90. Did you rebuild the rear end with new seals and all that? And did you do the gearing yourself or did you have someone do it? I'd like to do my own gearing but I have heard it's a precision job.

Not sure why everyone else does it but my reason is simple. Although I'm a short guy (5' 6") I like to sit on a chair while I do brakes, or mess with the diff and diff cover. And as well it makes it easier when you cut off the brackets that are no longer needed. You can just spin the whole axle housing on the jack stands and position it anyway that makes it easy to do w/e is needed.
Welding-yes trying to find a welder to borrow so I can tack it all up and bring it to a busy that is good at welding. A case of beer is cheaper than most people that are travel welders! And yes definitely welding the tubes! I've read about this a few times and I'm taking the advice! I'd rather take the time and do it once than do it again. Since this project has been in the works since March, and I'm just now getting around to doing it. Why so long? Well just trying to do all the research I can to make it easier and I'm here to tell you it's paying off. I'm only $290 in the hole for this project and all I have left to do is weld! I couldn't be happier!

I notice that a lot of guys prop up their axles on jacks like you did in this pic. Why do you do that? Is there any reason in particular other than not wanting the cover to leak any fluid? I have mine just sitting on a pallet and I'm wondering if I should be storing it some other way?

AllMudd It's about 1/2" further into the TC. But that's back to about stock since it was further out than stock with my 4" lift and the D35.

AllMudd Got everything where it needs to be now. Everything worked out nicely. Got my rear drive shaft at 9 degrees. Looks good and even had a buddy that does custom builds come take a look at he was impressed! So now just waiting on a welder to tack everything up so I can bring it into work. My work has a welder that's perfect but it is a little to big just to throw around.

AllMudd Ok for those of you following this, I got the a me under the Jeep. Took some muscling since I'm a little guy. But it's there none the less. I had to grind down the leaf perches to get it with a little gap between the bracket and a me housing so it can be welded good.

After that got the u bolts on and it centered. Kinda funny I had it just about where it needed to be at 5 1/4" from the leaf perch to the axle flange.

Need to cut these down once everything is measured 10 million times, welds are solid and I'm ready for the road.

And the drive shaft fits but I have some questions on the leaf perches. There are three holes see here.

But my question is why are there three? Do you have to use the middle one? Or are they there for you to choose? Just trying to do this once since money is not on anyone's side in the Jeep world.

Now I have the job of setting everything where it needs to be and clean all of it up in preparation for some good welds! And what a beefy kit! Love the little logo they send I need to find somewhere to put it.

I've read around that when you do a 2" or more BL you have to cut the shifter spot bigger. And I figured since I have the TC drop already 1.5" or so (haven't measured it but that's what it looks like) and then add the 1" BL . I think it may be an issue. Honestly not sure why my starter cable is short but my brother put a bunch of hours in on my Jeep for me while I was deployed so he might have needed to shorten if because of corrosion.

AllMudd It all depends in the person I think. Most go with SYE when they lift to 4". And also the BL is easy you just have to locate and remove all the stock body mount bolts. Lift the body with a jack or leverage and slide in the new body bushing. Then there are a few things you have to relocate. Not sure exactly what but I know there are some things. The BL kit will come with directions that should help quite a bit. I am waiting for another budget to do the BL I'm only going with 1". But I need more than most ppl. Currently my starter power cable is barely long enough to touch the starter so that would have to be changed and I would have to cut a bigger hole for my shifters so it won't bind on the body.

ChicoJeepy I'm thinking of getting RC 4'' lift and RC 1.75'' body lift. I have mostly stock everything underneath just want it to work but don't know how to install and body lift and the pros/cons of it. Still have more questions but don't want to swamp your topic LOL

AllMudd I've got plenty of clearance. When I put my 4" lift on and the 1 1/2" TC drop the dshaft barely moved and I had no vibs whatsoever. The only thing that I'm worried a out is if he dshaft is long enough since the 8.8 is almost 2" offset to the right.

AllMudd Now the 8.8 is cleaned up its ready for the brackets to arrive. I ordered the RUFFSTUFF swap kit cost $127.50. Got to love stuff on sale! Saved over $25 on the 4th of July sale weekend. Hoping I get the kit on Monday or Tuesday so I can continue working and locate a good welder. This swap is much easier than it sounds. I think the hardest part is doing all the labor.

AllMudd There ya go. Here is what happened to my Dana 35, I just took my diff cover off and discovered this was the noise I was hearing!
