MarkGLHS ^but I think we all knew what you meant.

and also the 2007 and up JK Saharas have an even different logo.

bbusch I just noticed an error in my earlier posts in this thread. To clarify the old TJ Sahara badge was from 97-02, 03-04 had a different Sahara badge and Jeep didn't make a Sahara package in 05 and 06... except for the limited production run of the Rubicon Sahara in 2005. I previously misstated the newer badge was from 03-06.

magvice Thanks EatTacoCatTea and LJEEPJ for the input. I did have a problem with my shift boot when I put the 2" body lift on. Because the gear shift was now 2" lower it was hitting the back of the opening through the body.I had to trim out a section at the back of the opening and I had to cut across the front of the boot to releive the tension it was causing. It was not allowing the stick to stay in 6th gear or reverse. once that was done it would stay in those gears.I am also learning how to shift based on some of the post I have read on the forum. you have to shift into neutral then shift not forcing it into gear. Now that I have learned that me and my new buddy are getting along much better. It is the same as learning about a new girl freind. Happy jeep happy life or something like that. I still want to change the fluid but when I spoke to mechanic who installed it and he told me it would void the 2 year warranty. So I might just have to deal with it until the warranty is up. Well at least if I do have any more problems with it I won't have to pay for it to be replaced.

LJEEPJ Also, if your still having problems going to reverse make sure you go into a forward gear then reverse..... Good luck 😜

EatTacoCatTea Magvice ^DM Jerry Bransford or see if he pops in if want some advice what fluid to put in or if you have questions on the viscosity. A few popular choices just for a heads up are RP synchromesh, Redline MTL, and (me personally)Valvoline's version of Synchromesh.

magvice Thanks for all the great suggestions. I guess the mechanic I talked to wasn't blowing smoke up my tailpipe when he said these are crunchy when shifting. The original owner ( my boss) had the tranny changed out at about 55,000 miles. the Jeep has 59,000 now so thats good to know I don't need to have it redone. I am going to change to the royal purple syncromax. Ive heard you can also use a slightly higher viscosity. Any thoughts from the the true experts out there?
I want to thank my996duc1 for the link to the rubicon sahara registry. I called the number gave them my vin# and found out I had #921 of 1000.They even gave me the part # to order it through a dodge dealer which I am going to tomorrow.
my996duc1 I saw your incredible build on your LJ and saw you changed out the soft top.
I have a hard top but would like to get a stock soft top. Would you be interested in the sale of the original soft top. The jeep I have has really not been offroad but maybe a couple of times. I probably won't abuse it too much myself, but I still want to do some mild mods to it. I have already given it a 2" body lift and 2 1/2" suspension lift which gave it a much better look than the squatty looking stock condition it started with. I also ordered some larger wheels and tires which will now fit. I hope to have them within a week or two. I am sure once I feel confident I won't tear the under carriage out from under it I will be looking to start learning about some offroad activities.

LJEEPJ I feel your pain. I experienced this situation when I got my 05 LJ it popped out of 1st and reverse 3-4 times. I changed the fluid to RP and the combination of fluid and getting to know and feel of the tranny we've had no problems and buttery smooth shifting.

2005 is the 1st year of the NSG which is also the notorious year of the bad shift fork, typically affecting reverse and occasionally other gears. Difficulty into gears is fairly common with this transmission and can sometimes be cured to some degree swapping to "higher grade" gear oil like RP. Incase your problem only worsens, specifically being difficulty with reverse, make sure to search for the TSB on this forum that lists the proper way to fix the problem.

Also, double check and make sure your shift boot isn't the problem

I would say it is 'not uncommon' to have shifting issues.
mine got alot better with a fluid change to Royal Purple Synchromax.

Here is where I heard about the fluid change helping to smooth it out :

magvice Hi all
Just bought my first jeep, a 2005 rubicon unlimited with the sahara package from my boss. Mine didnt come with a interior numbered badge tire cover or tail light guards but has the exterior stickers with the star and laurels. I have a 6 speed manual tranny which is not very smooth shifting from 1st to 2nd, and 3rd gears. I beleive this is the NSG370 tranny made by mercedes. Can anyone tell me if this is a common issue. Trying to figure out what is going on with this thing.

Yes its just a chrome layover.

MarkGLHS ^save those factory parts, imo they will help you get a better price should you ever sell.

DOT Just picked mine up last week #330 no chrome grill or side decals but the plate is still intact also stock wheels still on the jeep for now, I was going to sell them after i put new ones on but now i wonder if that would be a mistake

Rubihara 416 I've had mine just a little over a month, had to drive about 500 miles to pick it up. #416. It has been well taken care of. I've had two TJs, a JKU and then this one, its my favorite so far.

ac427 I bought mine without really realizing what it was - just liked the color combo & the price was right. After a few weeks of modifying i did a total 180deg turn and decided to leave it unmolested. Fortunately everything i did was bolt on, but i foolishly sold the wheels to finance some new 33's & DC2's.

If anyone has or knows of a wheel set please PM me. I've contemplated taking a set of stock Moabs to a wheel refurbisher & have them paint & polish them - can't see that being cheap though for 5

MarkGLHS glad to read you folks are preserving the pedigree on these jeeps.

biggie All this time I thought it was Saharcon. I'm # 115. Bought it with 79K from a guy in Eugene, OR so we call him "Eugene"! I use it for my daily driver. We pull our teardrop with it and do moderate wheeling. Getting an LJ was a good move. The RSU was an extra treat.

I believe that they were molded to be a lighter color than the normal flares.

JeepScrambler Thanks! I just learned the TJ/LJ's don't register miles, I guess I am used to my old mechanical speedos.

wwch99tj Nice find, when flat towing it does not register miles...
