JustinE36M3 I wouldn't mind having a 4.0 in it. And now thinking about it, it is probably a rod blowing from the bottom end. That or the piston/cylinders are that far gone.

Rust is mainly cosmetic, nothing that can't be replaced

RepairMan The only hesitation I would have would be how much rust?

mudmagnet63 Agreed, had a buddy buy one with a blown motor for $1200. Then got a salvage motor for $450 install was $600 and he has a jeep worth 7-8K

rdock31 Even if you get if for 1500 and you can't get it to run, you'd make that back and then some parting it out.

Tomdata Sounds like a bottom end problem. If it doesn't turn over at all (clockwise or counter clockwise) its probably seized due to a crank/rod/bearing type failure. The loud bang was probably a rod going through the side of the block.

Either way $1500 is a good deal even if you have to replace the motor

JustinE36M3 It was close to over heating a couple times and he kept driving it. I replaced the coolant for him and everything seemed to be ok. When flushing the coolant, there was a good bit of oil in it. One night he said he heard a BANG and the jeep just turned off. Met him on the side of the highway and tried to get it running... but nothing. Got it home and I cant even turn the crank! Not sure how hard headjobs on these are.

Its completely stock

dirtdigger Did the jeep over heat to cause the blown head gasket and what other problems does it have is it modified at all these questions need to be answered first a jeep that has a lot of issues could end up costing a lot of money and may not be worth it just depends.

I have a chance to buy my roomates 2.5ltr jeep. 5 speed, has been sitting a while, has some rust, and a blown headgasket amongst a list of other mechanical maintenance needed. I offered him 1.5k and he said hed do it. Does this sound like a good deal?? Im new to jeeps. And how much is a head job if I do it myself?

Il try to take pics today
