dfjh2011 if you google jeep tj engine mods you should fine a write up about bolt on parts for the 4L straight six done by jp magazine. where they swapped parts on and off all the while dyno and road testing the jeeps. in a nut shell they say the biggest problem with the engine is that it only has one intake and one exhaust valve per cylinder. so the best ways to get hp gains is intake, exhaust, cam or stroker kit. as for gearing look for a 4cylinder five speed tj at a junk yard or pick a part they come with 411 gear and are a direct swap so you can do it yourself and save some cash.

NJO Leave your 4.0L stock, there is no point spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars to gain basically nothing. As above, if you want more power, then regear appropriately.

NCJeepin I don't have one myself, but I've heard they do very little on TJs. If you're looking for more power, regear. Cold air intakes do very little on TJs too. Save the cash from the chip and intake and save for a regear. I personally wouldn't regear for only 32s, but you're essentially wasting money with the other options with not much performance gains.

Superchips with my 4.0 sandwich?

I have the 03 X 4.0 with NV3550 5spd was thinking trail jammer ext would be a good upgrade and was wondering pros and cons. I used superchips vivd linq on my ranger and it was a huge improvement but mainly on shifting points(automatic) and such not power. running 32's and figured i would want to recoup some power but should i by the kit or piece it together myself. Im usually a K&n fan for intake. anyone who has done this or knows about it would be greatly appreciated. And pardon the cheesy title!
