Chilly03 Remove... wet sand ... wax ... and reapply.

calwick20 I wonder if it would be worth it to have a body shop sand it down and repaint the whole panel?

Zdrisko This is interesting...

My '98 has WRANGLER on both sides of the hood that did the same thing.
I peeled the decal off and used a pinstripe wheel from AutoZone and with no luck I still have the ghost of the sticker.

Jeepfixer1 Would take it by a boy shop or a detailing shop and see what they can do.

viperx6x9x I did a rocker panel stripe while I was doing the raptor liner last month. Turned out looking really nice. I don't know how much it will fade over time, but i think doing the whole jeep in liner would look pretty decent. The raptor turned out somewhere between line x and rhino as far as texture, i think the line x would be a nice look but it won't be cheap.

I'm pretty sure the picture is with them removed. That's pretty deep for just buffing IMO.

Big Sarge Or just leave it like that. I've never seen one like that so you would have a rare alternative to the decals. Lol

Rubi513 Wow! I can't imagine why someone would take the time to tape off a sticker.
07-08-2013 09:10 PM
viperx6x9x If you are really good at taping you could try just painting them on. At least on the raised jeep logo.

Tape off everything around the logo. Sand it down. primer. Sand the primer lightly to get out any high spots. Then just paint it.

As for the other stuff a repaint may be the only way to make it look nice again.

You could try some goo gone or something maybe and see if you can't get any of the old decals up, but if it is set in the paint you aren't going to get all of it.

I wouldn't try to paint it!! Where did you get the decals? Turbostixx (Tom) on here in the commercial section of the classifieds does good work on decals. Tom is a good guy to deal with too.

Big Sarge I would also guess that it has been repainted and someone took time to tape them off instead of removing then replacing after painting.

Now what in the world??

So, I removed my original (or thought to be original) side decals. Before I started, I noticed something odd. The decals were, for lack of better terms, set in the paint. So when I took them off, you could still see where they were. I thought, no problem I'll just replace them with black decals. It'll go with the "blackout" look I am going for. I bought new black stickers to replace and I hate how it is turning out.

I am wondering, was my TJ repainted in an earlier life? Why were the decals "set in" or "flush" with the paint? Or are all Jeeps like that? Let me know what you think!
