vacca foeda You don't have to...it's your money and your ride. I was nervous to do my lift, but once I started I wasn't overwhelmed and was really happy I did it myself

On the wheel/tire note, call the guys at discount tire direct. They are really good to deal with, have a lot of info, and are cheaper than anywhere else I've seen. (I know you have another thread asking about the tires, put my vote down for duratracs. I've got the 33s and have loved them.)

my biggest problem with people taking their jeeps to a shop is that when they get out on the trail and break something they have no freaking clue what to do.

a little bit of research and some time under your jeep will make you learn a LOT. they really arent that complicated once you familiarize yourself with various components.

you can do the "alignment" yourself. hint: It's a 15mm wrench. our steering geometry doesnt change based on ride height like a TJ would. all you have to do is center the steering wheel.

dawhitesJKU 4inches looks great, but its not really needed. Many stick to 2.5 which will give off a higher than advertised lift to accomodate your future plans for upgraded bumpers, winch, armor, etc.

2.5' will also run you less than a 4' will because there's less parts needed to run correctly. you can also install the lift yourself as long as you try. i wouldve done mine myself however i just don't have the time.

traitor08 After my lift, went to get it aligned, my buddy has the stuff to do it, and he never touched it. Said it was still in factory specs. After drivi g it for about 5k miles, I haven't had to do anything yet.

vacca foeda Get the new bolt kit from northridge or someone, grab a buddy or two, and block out a day to do it. It's not hard, just follow the instructions and you should be good. My buddy and I had 0 suspension experience and it came out great... No need for alignment or steering correction.

D.B. OK so I am with you all on the 2.5 versus the 4" lift.....you sold me on that. However, I am just shy installing the lift and not sure how to know where you can take a new lifted jeep to correctly get the alignment right and the steering wheel back to center if it does get moved in the process of the install. Other than the local alignment shops like firestone or something.

Another thought....to save cash, the BB seems so much more budget friendly however I have heard so many negative things such as, bad ride, cant be used for any real off roading and so on.

I know I will need the super chips flash unit to reset the tire size in the computer which will also allow the computer to self adjust for the change in regards to performance however, I have read so much about death shakes and all that crap that I am really hesitant about pulling off such a project.

Hell it looks super easy via youtube video's and I have all the right tools and high jack stands but it seems like a risky project when its your new jeep thats your DD.

First off. I read more stories of shops ef'n up install then self installs.
2nd, there's really no alignment other than steering and toe unless changing control arms/track bars/etc. these are easy to do with a little bit of research/learning.
Or find a reputable alignment shop to do it afterwards.

Snowboard One Don't buy procrap. 4 wheel parts owns them and push them on people that don't know. I went with a 3" BDS with the upgraded Fox shocks which is far superior than procomp. I got front trusses welded on and lower arm skid plates welded on for added strength to the front axel. I got 5 Ballistic Jester wheels flat black with red accents wrapped with 35" Goodyear muds with the Kevlar side walls. All for under $5000.

Tweak I love my local 4wp because we know them and have beers with them occasionally, but do not let them do this to you. they tried to charge me $450 to install exhaust spacers when I was a noobie.

A 4" lift is wrong for you for all of these reasons.

Go 2.5" and avoid all the hassles associated with messing with your geometry, and spend a fraction of what you were planning!

dawhitesJKU do not let 4wp install your lift!!!! You'll find other quality shops that do it for much less. You also have the wf community to help out.

vacca foeda A budget boost would be more affected by the bumpers and winch (stock coils with spacers). A higher quality spring lift would work fine. You'd save money on the lift and it would be a little easier if you have to deal with parking garages or for people to get in.

Lol cmon db you dont need all that lift! Lol save yourself the 5gs and go with your original higher spring rate swap, or a BB! Youll love it i promise. 2 inches is the deal. Imagine the sweet bumpers, winch, tube doors, fenders, gears, etc you could buy with all that money! Lol

kjeeper10 Not with quality coils. Most aftermarket coils run 1" or so over listed height unloaded.

D.B. I am looking at the 4" so I don't loose anything when I get bumpers and a winch. The smaller lift will be more effected by the added weight....or am I not correct on that assumption?

vacca foeda I'm sure you already know, but once you get over 3", you need a lot more stuff ie new front drive shaft, etc that won't be included in that price I wouldn't think.

For 35s, you can run them with a 2-2.5 lift or no lift and flat fenders with a pinch seam trim, I believe. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

With the smaller lift, you can do it yourself pretty easily and save yourself a couple of hundred bucks in labor while learning a bit more about your jeep.

Feedback on a price quote

Just got a final quote from 4 Wheel Parts on a 4" lift with 35" tires for my 2012 Sahara 2dr......$5500 complete install. The lift will be a Procomp lift. Does this price seem high?

Just FYI, test drove a 4dr with 3:21 gears, 4" lift and 35" tires and I have to say it was not bad at all! There is a small loss in power from a stand still and the tranny will find 4th and 5th more often but other than that I was sold! Which is why I am now considering the same set up for my 2dr with 3:21 gears.
