Emptybrass As the above stated. Don't take their no for an answer. Fight and stick to the facts. Get a rep involved, and don't take they can't get one for an answer either. If you don't mind telling me what dealer it is currently at please pm me. I may still have a rep that I know.

We are still having trouble. No one seems to want to take responsibility. Has anyone taken their top in to a boat store and had them patch their top?

blackbeauty87 The number is 1-800-992-1997. I have no idea if it's hq. I am extremely ignorant of all info regarding car dealers. Thanks for the help! I've been rolling with a toyota 4 runner w/ soft top for the past 27 years. I'm going to be very upset if Blackbeauty has to be my winter car. I kept her as a "just in case" vehicle.

Emptybrass It sounds like the repair was not done correctly. They will not want to take blame but see if you can find other model years similar and take pictures of said screw. I'm new here but from what I read I think more then enough members would go and take a pic for you. I would but mines a hard top :-)

Emptybrass Go to your dealer and ask for a factory rep to come out and go over the documented repair and the current condition. The dealer might/will be hesitant to do it but if you keep pushing they will have no option. The number you have is it jeep hq?

blackbeauty87 Thanks. I'm not sure who to go to next. The dealer gave me a jeep 1 800 number. When I called that number they told me to talk to the dealer. I've been going back and forth. Both tell me there is nothing they can do. The jeep 1 800 number was aweful! Is there another route I can go?

Emptybrass If they replaced the top it sounds like you have a legit case. Only thing I can say is dont take no for an answer. I work a a dealer for 9 years and it is the first thing they try. Do you homework and stick to the facts

blackbeauty87 Dealer took a pic and sent it to some company. The's not a defect. I did find out the dealer put a new top on it at 2,300 miles. I then took the top down 3 times and need a new top. Hmmm. No one can tell me why the tear is occurring. They don't know what I could have done to cause screws to come out of the back bar. So, even if I do purchase a new top, it will rip again. I am so frustrated right now!

mgola27 ^ It 'shouldn't' matter. The 3/36,000 bumper to bumper is typically transferable to subsequent owners.

However, it will be up to your dealer to determine if the tears/rips were caused by your negligence, which is where it can get complicated.

It's best to go to the dealer and see what they say. Then go from there.

blackbeauty87 Does it matter that I bought it used? Do I need to bring any paperwork with me? I've never worked with a dealer before.

lolpetewtf Take it to the dealer. Sounds like a manufacturing defect. They should replace it under warranty.

soft top ripped by screw

This is my first jeep. I bought a 2012 4 door 1/2 door used in Nov. 2012. Today when I went to take down the top, I noticed all the screws had popped through the fabric covering the small bar across the back seat. One of the screws made a rip in the top. The rip doesn't go all the way through the top, but I can see where the rip is from the top. (Clear as mud, I realize.)

Any suggestions? Also, what did I do wrong that all the screws popped through?
