Silverback51 In 1972 I bought a 1970 CJ5, stock with the Buick 225 V6 in it.

By the time I sold it 3+ years later it had a Paxton supercharger on it. The transmission was a Ford 4 speed top loader. The front axle was replaced with a Dana 44. There was a lot of other small modifications also, but I have forgotten a lot of them.

Used to take it our almost every weekend and beat the crap out of it an it never left me stranded or broke down.

JenyGirl This is what's confusing me when i see the 2dr vs 4dr war with,"it's not a jeep if it has 4drs, and or "can't crawl".... In my minds eye, this "IS"... The jeep!!! the civilian Protege the 2dr.. Hmm... Ahhhh.... Classic vintage... My passion.

When you aired the tires down, it would go just about any place that you pointed it in. THEM WERE THE DAYS............
I had extra leafs added to the springs and also had them re-arched. It was a real danger driving down the highway, real squirrely in the wind, but boy was it ever was fun.......

That's refreshing to hear. Most kids I see these days are hunched in front of their tvs playing video games. Can't be healthy.

Thanks for that pic. I had vacuum windshield wipers on top of the window like that pic. When you put the windshield down, the line would unplug. I would put a piece of elect. tape so to not suck up water, dust or whatever.

Tarby There were jeeps in our family, but this was my first one that I owned and rebuilt. 1984 J10.[IMG][/IMG] Before that, while I was home from college, I bought a 1978 CJ5 Renegade with 304 V8 off a repo man for $1100...it was in sad shape, but I sold it a week later for $2500.
Since then, have always had at least one jeep in the garage...

I was inspired by the 78 CJ5 Levi editions. And the Daisy Duke jeep!

Not my jeep but one of my favorites
Nice! I get to drive my buddies 70s-era CJ7 when I visit him in Fl a couple of times a year. It is a blast.
