kmusk01 Called the dealer this morning and they were awesome. They called the 3rd party company for me and had them come to my house to fix the windshield. The installers were very nice and knew what the issue was when they saw the windshield.

From what they told me if the windshield is not recessed all the way in, and if the spacers used at the bottom are not in, then you get a whistle. They said most installers don't like pushing on the windshield to recess it too much as it becomes very hard for the next installer to remove if needed replacement.

I took it for a drive and no more whistle

thinkxingu It's not about a bad windshield or job, it's about getting the gap spacing just right. My installer threw spacers under the windshield and then we went for a ride- when the whistle showed up, he got out, pulled the spacers, and slid the shield down about 1/16 inch- no more whistle.

Since it is a gap distance issue, I suppose a shoddy spec'd windshield might be more of a problem.

VBWrangler12 I am in a 2012 JKU. I cracked a window several months ago Safelite had to replace it 3 times to stop the whistling. Was a pain, but after intervention from the insurance company they did the job right.

Keep going back to the third party and the dealership they will make it right.

Good luck.

JK-linux 2013 JK with factory windshield built 05/2013 - it whistles very obviously over 35mph. I'll put up with it for now, but it will get old fast on an 8 hour highway drive.

igivup No I don't think there is supposed to be any gasket. It adheres to the vehicle with a sealant. Unless they are doing the newer one differently than mine.

kmusk01 Well I didn't have any duct tape, but did have some black tape which matches my Jeep Just put it around the sides and top of the windshield and went for a drive, and the whistle sound is gone. So its from the new windshield for sure.

Going to be calling the dealership tomorrow to see what they can do. The windshield was not installed by them, but a 3rd party company. Going to see if that 3rd party company can just come to my house instead.

boon4376 No whistling on my 4 door... Though when the freedom panels are off, there are some strange air whistles, hums, etc..

igivup Yea I thought it might come with the territory too. But since I got this latest one installed, I know they can be quiet. I think there is a trick to getting it centred, and mounted flush.
Mine was installed by Novus.

CaptnGus I'm on my 3rd windshield, and have the whistling, too. My last windshield I got from an auto glass specialist (NOT Safelite). I just figured the whistling was a Jeep thing, because of the gap around the outside of the windshield.

igivup I'm on my 3rd windshield. My first replacement I had done by the dealer. Whistled like a bugger, nearly drove me nuts. I was so glad when I finally caught another rock and had to have it replaced again. This time I went to a shop that does window replacement and nothing else. I informed them that the last one made a lot of noise, just so they would know I wasn't going to tolerate another whistling windshield. When I got it back I couldn't believe the difference. It didn't sound that quiet from the factory. They had it in stock, booked me in the following workday, were done in a few hours, and it has been flawless since this spring. From now on I will only go to the glass specialists, as I don't know how often the dealer installs windows, or if the guy doing it takes any kind of pride in his work.Since insurance is footing the bill, I might as well get it done right!

BleedsGreen I agree with the duct tape diagnoses method. Wranglers don't have a seal around the outer edge of the windshield and I've read some posts where that gap has caused an audible whistling. I think you're definitely headed down the right track.

kmusk01 Hmmm I have the whistle noise regardless if windows are up or done. Granted when they are down its hard to hear it. Also when using the sunrider top I can hear the noise, so pretty sure its not from the seal of the top.

Dumb question, but where is the air damn, behind the grill??

Think I will try the duck tape around the window here soon and see if that stops it. At least it will help me narrow it done.

kjeeper10 This may sound stupid, but removing my air dam stopped my windshield whistle.

MRT2 Ken, I have a 2013 JKUR. I also have a whistling, however this only occurs when the windows down with speeds +35MPH.

Whistle noise?

I just bought a new 2013 Wrangler last week. Its used with only 6K miles. The previous owner traded it in the for the 4 door as he needed more room.

After I signed all the paperwork and took the keys to drive it home I noticed a crack in the windshield. Luckily I was still in the parking lot, so I just parked and grabbed my sales person. He wrote out a "We Owe You" slip and said to just call and schedule an apt. to get it replaced.

I went in last Friday and had it replaced and now I have a whistle sound anytime I go over 35MPH. I thought maybe it was the top, so I took it down, and still have the noise.

I have only driven the Jeep a few times before bringing it back in for the windshield replacement, but really don't remember ever hearing this whistle. I will admit it pretty much rained the whole time I have had the Jeep so maybe the whistle has always been there...

Is it possible its not sealed correctly, or should I look someplace else for the noise?

I am thinking of putting duck tape around the windshield one side at a time, and see if it goes away. If it does will the dealer be able to fix or will I be SOL?

This is my first Jeep and so far I LOVE it, just not the noise :P
