scrambler1 I nabbed one out of a 01' isuzu rodeo with 4.10's earlier this summer. I plan on swapping it in this winter. 30 spline axles and the right gearing I need. Going to go with adapters for the bolt pattern and that should give me the correct width I need. Unless before then I come up with a waggy or fullsize jeep front dana 44 with 4.10's then I will just have to buy new wheels.

yjwes i would just put some thing like a 8.8 or a 44 in the rear the front should be fine

payj90 I would say the scout dana 44 front swap is not for you. Its alot of work and takes a fair bit of knowledge. First of the pinion is on the wrong side for a yj so youd need to swap transfer cases to something like the dana 300, second if you keep it spring under i think you would run it problems with it running into things like the oil pan. To make the 44 soa you need to mill or grind a flat spot into the carrier itself, but I have some pictures of mine if you are still interested, and could possibly answer some of your questoins.

jpdocdave doesn't sound like you need to swap axles. mild and mud off road w/ 33's you'll probably be ok, or just beef up your stock axles a little.

Jon H This will be a mostly on road jeep but it will see some offroading, I plan on doing almost all of my offroading in the mud. I'm thinking this will be off road probably every weekend but most of it will be pretty mild. I was thinking of going with 33's if I can come up with the money but until I can get 33's I will run 31's. I would like to stick with the springs on it now just because I wont be able to afford a lift. would I be able to keep the dana 30 front for a while or should I swap it out?

daddyjeep The first thing to make sure of is the offset of the differential for the front axle. Then after that depends on how much work you are willing to do. You may need to cut off the old spring perches and weld on new ones, same thing with the shock mounts. Just take some measurements and see how well the new axles fit. You may find something that will fit right in.

jpdocdave broad question. how about some more info on what you wanna do with the jeep, how big of tires do you want, what kind of wheeling if any are you going to do. it will be a good time for a lift, spring over is a good idea to think of to. 87-90 xj and mj had rear d44's rarely, they are a good swap, also ford explorer 8,8 rear ends from late 90's are a good fit.

the front doesn't have a direct swap in, i'm building dana 44's from an old scout but my front axle will be right side drop for a d300 t case. lots of options and variables, and the sky is the limit.

dana 44 swap

Over this summer I am doing some work for a guy that owns a repair shop and I was talking with him and he said he might be able to get me some dana 44 axles. My dana 35 is just about shot and I don't want to put any money into it so I'm thinking about swapping to dana 44's, but I don't know much about axle swaps and that stuff. My first question is should I swap out both axles or just do the rear axle? What axles will match up with a jeep and at least be within an inch or two of the width of the dana 35? Can I use the same springs that are on there now? What other stuff will I need to swap out the axles? Any help is greatly apprieciated.
