Blocker78 I try to use the 857 at least a few times a week. Use VHF more than HF. I have not talked to another local on the trails yet. Like to see where I can still hit my local repeaters from.

PhotoWrangler How often do you use the HF on the 857? That radio has been suggested to me instead of the 8900, since the 8900 is FM only.

Blocker78 Yaesu ft857d. Control head mounted above rear view mirror. Mic on arm rest. Main body under rear seat. Speaker in front of stick shift. Antenna mount on rear passenger side above break light. I use ham sticks for my antenna. Works great and is easy to use.

zombiechief At the moment, mine looks like this...

...but I'm thinking of trying to get my radio's into my .50 cal ammo can console so they are out of the elements. Any ideas?

I forgot to put this in my first. The faceplate is now mounted on the windshield frame between the sunvisors.

OhSixTJ Kenwood TM-281 is nice. I have an icom 2100h in my work truck. One thing that you should know is that the mics use different methods to "hang". The kenwood mic is like a regular cb mic with that circular thing on the back. The icom is a thinner mic with a place for it to be hooked somewhere. You'll need to stick some sort of hook onto your dash or radio for the mic to hang from. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Photo of your HAM radio setup.

I'm nearly ready to install a mobile rig, as soon as I decide which radio I want, and I'm interested in seeing your setups.

Antenna mounts, in cabin radio installations, placement and wiring of external speakers etc.... lets see it all.
