Also does anyone happen to know the stock JK 08 Power and output impedance for the stereo?

Dunkin_D I def like your idea with those speakers. I wouldnt mind doing the same thing in my jeep. It would be great when having the top off to pivot the speakers to point out the back. Then normal day use point them forward or if possible to tuck them up into the roll bar....

RnEmOvr In my TJ I have a full marine set up to include the radio. One thing I did to help was built a box around the radio behind the dash out of plexiglass to keep water and mud out as much as possible. Also every connector on the jeep (including engine, lights etc) all have dielectric grease on them to keep water out.

nobndry I have the Polk MobileMonitors in the front and sound bar, and they are marine grade speakers. Mine have gotten wet many times, and they sound awesome! I also have an alpine amp.

Killin It Nate thanks guys! I guess im not really concerned about getting them/me wet, i think im just looking for that custom and being different look! (a lot of Jeeps in Colorado...i cant wave at them all )

I got the idea of this yesterday as a trailored boat rolled up next to me at a light and i noticed his wake rack was fully loaded with speakers. I am on the water a ton and love the look of those speakers so why not try and inmatate that look on a jeep. Flipped down they would look pretty sweet and if its a music battle those people want (horrible rap music and loud rattling trunks) at a stop light i could flip them up and crank up some AC/DC!

Nice rig!
thanks Antonio! someone once told me, "Enough is Never Enough" and i believe that now that i own a Jeep. I think all upgrades are just temporary

you lose your overhead light.
Good call Dennis. Maybe ill leave the bar and build the mount off of that so i will only need to tap into the speaker wire a short distance. Maybe splice the wires and add to them? Would i need to pull more AMPs from somewhere? Would i have to worry about blowing a fuse?

DetailGuy I believe Polk speakers are marine certified and if your worried about them getting wet then those will work. Will be much cheaper too than a custom option.

DC Dennis Just beware that if you have Sirus Radio or a factory Nav System the antenna is in the sound bar. Remove it and you might have issues, and you lose your overhead light.

Antonio Nice rig!

I'm also new here as well, however I can confirm that it is possible to install the marine speakers in a wrangler. I've had some friends who had some in theirs, so I know it's possible. Only thing is I couldn't tell you how to wire them up exactly. It should be as simple as running the same wires from the current speakers to the new ones and finding a place on the sound bar to mount them. As far as I know with experience, the speaker wires are pretty simple to disconnect and reconnect to new speakers (you might need to pick up a few small pieces at the store to connect the wires, but you may not).

Hope that helped a little!

Marine speakers on a Jeep?

Hello WF.

First thread post here and new to the Jeep community! I recently picked up my '08 2dr JK about two months ago and as everyone says... "I cant stop moddin'". I think ive cut and pulled every piece off and back together to try and learn the guts of these things. I want to make my Jeep my own and unique and I had an idea that came across my mind the other day and i wanted to see if it was possible...im not very good at wiring and electrical work so this is where i struggle.

Would it be possible to do an audio upgrade with water proof marine speakers that fit on a wakeboard rack? I want to upgrade the audio and as everyone knows the stock audio is horrible...and with the top off, irrelevant! My idea is to pull the stock audio bar and install the "cone-like" boat speakers (here) on a swivel mount. i figured i could point them down and towards the front seats for driving so the sound is projected towards me and be able to flip them up for trail or car camping. NOTE* that i would NOT want to be that guy blasting annoying [country] music on a quite trail, i prefer nothing at all when i trail because i enjoy the crushing rock sound!

If they are on a swivel mount to ill be able to flip them down when the top is on...but then again they're water proof.

is this possible to replace the audio speakers with boat speakers?

Just a thought?

below is what ive done to my Jeep in two months. it was completely stock with 29s on it from carmax.

Thanks guys!
Nate
