MI JeepSkate i can usually walk into meijer and get all mobil 1 everything for under $50. but thats only when they have the filter in stock

HK_Runner I have heard the same thing....that conventional is what they were designed for. I did not manage to get any details. Really sounds weird but I may have also read this.

Still, I think they're lying.
Even if that's true, that doesn't mean synthetic is a bad idea. It may be overkill or a waste, but not bad.

The 2012 owners manual states synthetic motor oil is ok to use. I've read Chrysler changed from 30 weight oil on the 2012s to 20 weight on the 2013s to meets fuel efficiency goals.

What about this one? Is it one that will work okay and not give me a CEL?

Thanks!

Anybody heard of this?
2013 it changed to 5w-20, I wonder if they consider that the correct oil for 2012 now as well? Not that it would affect your warranty if they DID change their minds like that. I'm just talking.

Are they saying your warranty is affected in some way?
07-20-2013 07:45 PM
HK_Runner Surely they told you more, no? If someone told me that, I'd ask for details. I have been using some form of synthetic since 3,000 miles or so....5W30...no issues.

ohioviper Bosch is made by Purolator, not a bad filter but I would prefer Wix or OEM.
Ive been getting the Penzoil platinum at Walmart for less than Mobile 1 and stopping by Orileys or Napa for the Wix filter.
07-19-2013 09:17 PM
HK_Runner I have not heard (till now) bad things about Bosch filters. I am not sure who makes them though.
07-19-2013 06:07 PM
Scott in Houston Ok guys... I was wrong on my price.
It was $39 for oil and filter. Not too bad...
Anyway, thanks for the pointers. I'm going to give the Bosche filter a try and see if it throws a CEL. If so, I'll just get the STP or something.

Also, this Autozone is literally 400 yards from my house. The nearest Walmart is like 5 miles. That's worth a few bucks IMO.
07-19-2013 05:33 PM
lolpetewtf At WalMart you can get 5qt for M1 15,000 mile for like $27. Filter from Filter1.com is like $2.

Lets keep beating this to death. My Jeep dealer uses Mobil 1 oil for all there synthetic oil changes. In My 2012 they use Mobil 1 10w-30 that's not in the manual anywhere. The lighter oil is for mileage not engine protection.

bac4mor I just bought a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 synthetic oil at Walmart today in NC for $22.97.
07-19-2013 04:13 PM
HK_Runner Just use a Mopar or Wix filter. The oil is good though. It is the same oil as when it had the Chrysler spec on it. Some additives may have changed but it is probably even better.

tae73 If you have a Sams Club every day price for Mobile 1 37.00 for 6 bottles.

^^^ legitposter knows whats up!

mobile 1 is 24.99 a 5.25 qrt jug at walmart, where i'm at. plus another quart and a filter... $50? yikes !

Also, i'm an avid autozone shopper (have 6 cars in our fam) AZ sends out coupons for $10 off a 5 qrt jug if you're on their email list. It's reg 36.99 and then down to 26.99.

I would try to return it if you haven't used it (havn't read this thread thoroughly, apologize if you've covered this point)

I use mobil one synthetic with bosch filters and have never had a problem, but its the TJ. Maybe they are not as picky.

DFW6ER Any brand name SL/SN motor oil and brand name oil filter will be fine for your jeep. Nobody (including Chrysler) can prove otherwise. Just keep your receipt to prove you're doing your oil changes in case you have a problem and need warranty work on the engine.
07-19-2013 03:10 PM
zerinS4 Used it in many forced induction high performance temperamental German engines without any issue whatsoever. If it's good enough for that, it's good enough for the Pentastar.

All of that has to do with a spat between the companies. The oil is just fine for any modern car engine.
