|legitposter||I don't question that conventional oil works or that a builder may have 'designed' specifically for it. But given how hot the pentastars run at normal operating temperature, I don't see how conventional would last anymore than a few hundred miles.|
|07-20-2013 10:51 PM|
|HK_Runner||I have heard the same thing....that conventional is what they were designed for. I did not manage to get any details. Really sounds weird but I may have also read this.|

They really said these motors are built for conventional? I think they're full of it, BUT, I will admit that it makes sense. The pentastar is and will be in many 'every day' Chrysler vehicles. The type of vehicles that 'every day' people will have the 'every day' corner shops dump any cheap oil into. So designing for conventional would increase longevity for the masses.
Still, I think they're lying.

|salt life01||I did question that why would a synthetic oil cuase this. Most synthetic oils exceeds the requirements if what manufactures call for. His answer was that some engines react differently to it and that chrysler builds these motors to work on normal conventional oils. They also changed my synthetic oil out and filter (wix) to conventional and a mpoar filter and sent me on my way.so now is the waiting game to see if chrysler is right or wrong. And no useing synthetic does not void any warranty|

Are they saying your warranty is affected in some way?
|07-20-2013 07:45 PM|
|HK_Runner||Surely they told you more, no? If someone told me that, I'd ask for details. I have been using some form of synthetic since 3,000 miles or so....5W30...no issues.|

Okay guys I just had the people at chrysler inform the dealership that I was useing the wrong type of oil on my 2012 jk since my first oil change I have used 5w30 synthetic valvoline I hit 1200 and bam mil light came on. Took it to dealership and they replaced the camphasers. AT 1300 mil light came back on took back to the
dealership they then contacted Chrysler and was told I was useing the wrong type of oil.
Anybody heard of this?

Bosch is made by Purolator, not a bad filter but I would prefer Wix or OEM.
Ive been getting the Penzoil platinum at Walmart for less than Mobile 1 and stopping by Orileys or Napa for the Wix filter.

|HK_Runner||I have not heard (till now) bad things about Bosch filters. I am not sure who makes them though.|

Ok guys... I was wrong on my price.
It was $39 for oil and filter. Not too bad...
Anyway, thanks for the pointers. I'm going to give the Bosche filter a try and see if it throws a CEL. If so, I'll just get the STP or something.
Also, this Autozone is literally 400 yards from my house. The nearest Walmart is like 5 miles. That's worth a few bucks IMO.

|lolpetewtf||At WalMart you can get 5qt for M1 15,000 mile for like $27. Filter from Filter1.com is like $2.|

My Jeep dealer is one of the biggest around and they will fix anything under warranty even if you have mods to your jeep. They told me they have never refused to fix something under warranty even when guys added 4 inch lifts and destroyed drive shafts.

|bac4mor||I just bought a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 synthetic oil at Walmart today in NC for $22.97.|
|07-19-2013 04:13 PM|
|HK_Runner||Just use a Mopar or Wix filter. The oil is good though. It is the same oil as when it had the Chrysler spec on it. Some additives may have changed but it is probably even better.|

|DFW6ER||Any brand name SL/SN motor oil and brand name oil filter will be fine for your jeep. Nobody (including Chrysler) can prove otherwise. Just keep your receipt to prove you're doing your oil changes in case you have a problem and need warranty work on the engine.|
|07-19-2013 03:10 PM|
Used it in many forced induction high performance temperamental German engines without any issue whatsoever. If it's good enough for that, it's good enough for the Pentastar.
