|jeremyx28||There are a few ax15's for sale around me. Average price around $350-400....should I keep looking? Also, I still drive the jeep a lot and just hold 1st when needed....am I OK doing this or am I gonna find myself hiking out of the woods soon?|

4.2- 87-early 89 Ba-10, late 89-90 ax-15
4.0- ax-15 all years
You have to get a adapter plate to swap the ax5 to ax15, and its worth it, you might end up rebuilding that ax5 and loosing 5th gear in a month cause its crap.

|AllMudd||The 2.5L came with the AX5, the 4.0 later years can with the BA-10, earlier years can with the AX15. And no not a direct swap from the 5 to 15.|

|jeremyx28||I think I may have to do a tranny rebuild as well but I'm not sure what trans I have. Anyone know how I can identify my trans? I have a 95 with the 2.5 and 4.11 gears. Also, if I have the ax 5 is it a direct swap for the 15? I keep popping out of first, if I hold the shifter its fine but when I let it go it pops into neutral....every other gear is fine though for the most part. 3rd is a little loud as well as 5th but I never use it anyway.|

|cakes567||If you want my opinion do not east your time re building that trans. They where junk they day the left the factory. If you can afford it is suggest swapping to a ax15 much better and stronger trans .|

AX 5 rebuild
Im getting ready to pull my AX 5 apart and replace the Synchro's, I have a friend that says he knows how to rebuild them, but i would fill more confortable if i had a service manual. i cant seem to find one but i have for the ax 15 (i was told they are simular) and also a step by step video. So my question is how much of a difference is there really between the two?
