I believe every towed vehicle should have a supplemental brake system. Many folks don't feel the need. If you fall into that category, check your RV manufacturers towing specs. Many RVs specify supplemental brakes for anything being towed over 3500 lbs, even though the hitch has a 5K rating.

One more important tidbit... no matter what type of tow bar you use, it needs to be as level as possible. There are up/down hitch adapters available from 2 to 10" so getting it level should not be a big problem.

Now the really bad news... It's not cheap to set this all up. I DIYed the job, hunted for deals, and spent right at a thousand bucks to set up my '13 JK. If you have it done, plan on at least another grand, and more likely $1500.

Yup. You don't even have to fully detach it. Just unbolt the side on the differential and strap it to the frame. It won't spin and it'll stay in place

Thats what i thought myself because i have seen them being towed dolly style. Its awesome to have info from all here that know jeeps. Thats why i love this forum. Have a blessed Sunday all.

jkjeeper06 There is 1 way to safely dolly tow a jeep and you cannot possibly damage it. You just have to remove the rear driveshaft. It can be a pain but its not too bad if a dolly is the only option. All you need is 1 wrench

BusManRG FIRST....Your jeep MUST be towed 4 down or 4 up. Next, talk to your local jeep dealer or RV dealer. We will be in the same situation soon and know that products are out there. We are fortunate enough to have a jeep salesman that is also an RV'er. Or you could just check out Roadmaster or Blue Ox and see what you could purchase directly from them.

Bangert Do not tow with a dolly. Jeeps are meant to be flat towed only. There are bars that bolt under your frame. Do a search for it.

connochr There are several "adjustable" tow bars on the market. I haven't seen one without mounting plates for the bumper. I suppose if you can't find one to match up to your bumpers tow hook plates you could purchase an adjustable one and have the ends modified at a metal welding shop to match up to your bumper. Shop by me charges $75 an hour to weld up anything you want. Couldn't be more than an hour worth of work. Unless someone knows of a tow bar for that specific bumper.

Idapopo3 Ok I am very green and a newby, but what does the weight of my motor home have to do with it? I know I can tow a jeep behind my class A motor home. I am new to this so any advice will help

Towing help needed

I just bought a 2012 JK Moab edition. It came with pretty much everything already. I want to tow it behind my motor home but I don't want to weld new brackets to the bumper. Does anyone know of a company that sells a tow bar that I can attach to my existing tow hook plates. The bumper is an after market heavy duty bumper.
