You really need a set of gauges to diagnose the problem. There are more reasons that it may not be working properly than a low charge. If the orifice tube is clogged it can act the same way. The only way to know is to see the high side pressure, which should be as a starting point 2 times ambient air temp plus 50. Which should put the low side at around 30 or so. That is at idle. I like to start a little lower than that, and see how it does. Do not forget to add oil every time that you add refrigerant. I would really recommend spending the extra couple of dollars on the cans of 134 with the oil already added. The compressor needs it to work, that is what lubricates it.

Also the pressure in the can will drop as it gets cold. The pressure of the freon is directly relative to its temperature. It will help once you get it working to place the can back over on the engine to warm it up as it starts to ice up.
Also when you pull the trigger to squirt in the freon it should shoot the pressure up on its gauge to approx the pressure in the can. If its not doing that then back the can off the guage just a little to see if it starts hissing. If not then you haven't punctured the can.

|R u s s||You just need to keep doing it when the pressure goes to zero its because there is not enough refrigerant but it is sucking freon out of the can. But when it goes to zero that also shuts off the compresser. Thats when the suction stops which causes the pressure to rise again which allows the compresser to kick back in. Its called short cycling. Sounds like you doing it right but it does take time. But keep doing it and you will knowtice the compresser will start running longer and the air will start to cool down. And you take your pressure reading while the commpresser is engauged. It also speeeds the process up to hold the can upside down. Wear gloves cause the can will freeze.|

|biggus35||May be a stuck valve. Inside the connection on the metal tube there is a valve (same type as in your tires). I think it's called a schraeder valve. I've read where these valves sometimes go bad / get stuck.|

|jeffro1965||The line I had it on was really cold. The can is definitely punctured but its still full. It goes up to 80 then drops to 0 when the compressor kicks on. I had the a/c on max with the jeep running.|

You had it hooked up right. It's the port by the passenger side firewall. Look at the top pic and the low side port is on the liquid line:

If you cannot get the refrigerant into the system...
You are on the correct port. If the refrigerant will not go into the system you may have a bad/stuck valve or may not have the connection seated tightly. Make sure you've punctured the seal on the can - refer to directions on can.
If you are getting the refrigerant into the system then...
You obviously have a leak somewhere. Depending on how big the leak is the refrigerant may be leaking out as fast as you are putting it in.

06 TJ. My air stopped blowing cold. Bought a can of freon and it wont take it. Im putting it in the port closest to the passenger fender. Its the smaller of the two ports. The compressor kicks on for aprox 6 seconds then back off. When it kicks on, the guage drops to 0 then slowly climbs back to 80. Any ideas?
