Hopefully it was a self-destruct button to blow the ugly thing up. But in all seriousness, sometimes on prototypes I think they put what is basically an emergency kill switch since they are unproven vehicles that could develop some kind of unexpected issue.
He may have been in Florida because they could be doing testing in different types of climates or testing extended driving issues or whatnot.

SPOTTED: 2014 Jeep Cherokee being Tested in Alligator Alley, FL
Driving to Key West earlier this week and saw a Jeep Cherokee with Manufacturer Plates from Michigan and no labels. Anyone have an idea of what they were doing? There was a big red button on the dash but I couldn't get too good of pictures.
