Wesboy The wires need to go back on with some authority or they will fall off again.
I felt a definite 'click' when the wire was seated on the connector properly.

I just used one hand to hold the connector where it should go and pushed, while my other hand was inside the tub pushing from the other side.. Snapped right together.

Don't try to connect them from that side. Pull the grommets, push the wires through the holes to someone inside the rig, reconnect them that way and then push the grommets back into the holes from inside the rig.

If you're dealing with an 03 up, the emissions stuff is in the way. The easiest way is to pull the wheel well liner and go at it that way. The two contacts inside the tailgate on the side of the wheel well just sit in two rubber grommets. If you pull the contacts out of the grommets, you can pull the grommets and feed the wires in from the tire side. After that you can push the contact through the grommet, install the bullet connector and pop it back into the hole. There is no plus or minus, it's just a loop to the light. IIRC

justin-branam Sounds like the wires behind the button connectors are loose, is that right? If so, are you talking about on the body side or the tailgate side?

zaskar14 I am not sure which connectors you are talking about.
The power contacts for the light are on the righthand side of the rear door. (Two buttons)

The Ubiquitous Third Brake Light

Howdy!

I was doing some tail light work on the kiddo's 2006 TJ this morning. Now the third brake light has not been working for some time, and I have been intending to fix it or get it fixed. I had the right tail light housing removed and noticed the body connectors for the third brake light were dangling loose! I have looked and looked, but how do I find the place where they plug into the body pins? I have been under the jeep by the right rear tire, removed that plastic cover, but I just can't see where the body pins are.

Thanks for any help.

James
