|James.crawford14||Lincoln builds the best welders IMO. You can weld whatever you want with any MIG just have to increase the passes. I've got a 140 and I'll weld up to 1/2 no problem|

I've had it about 12 years and it still works great. I believe the SP185 has replaced it in Lincoln's product line. I can weld 1/4" in a single pass and up to 1/2" with two passes. It does use 220 volts so you would need a 220v plug in your garage.
Here is my son's TJ frame with Safety Cap and my own fab pieces.

Will a "Autorust center Frame at skid plate Mount" be the right move to make?
Hi. I just recently bought a 98 4.0 Tj. I noticed while unbolting the bottom skid plate that the underneath of the center of the frame on both sides is rotted out and there is only one bolt on each side that is not rotted out. My question is, will an "Auto Rust Center Frame At Skid Plate Mount" for $150 for each side be worth buying and having welded on?? This is the link to the website I found it on Auto Rust Center Frame At Skid Plate Mount Right ART-113R The skid plate could drop at any time. The rest of the frame had some repairs done and was proffesionally welded and undercoated.

Rust and rot are like cancer: if you see it, it's usually far too late. Frame rot, breaks, cracks are usually a DOT or state safety inspection out-of-service criterion, which is why many of my fellows will not put heat to them. Usually the parent metal falls apart, or you're spending significant effort trying to find foundation to splice your repairs into.
Me? Heck no I wouldn't repair a rotten frame. Why? Experience says its too late.

|vajeeper1||I would take the safety cap parts to some other body/frame shops for another opinion, the one you got is ridiculous, this repair should be solid if it is done correctly. It doesn't sound like that shop was interested in the job. Heck, my son is going to do mine for me as he has the welding experience. you are replacing the bottom half of the frame while maintaining the original, unrusted top half.|

I restored over half of my son's frame using safety cap. If done correctly, I believe it is at least as strong as original. Check this thread out.

I just got mine today, the center skids and the front trailing arm mounts. I went to a auto body place that is local and he said that he would not install the parts I got from safe t cap because he wouldnt feel right for me driving down the road and that it would rather be better to get a whole new frame. I looked online for new frames and they were right around $1800. I need some more opinions on this.
Edit - I also brought one of the safe t cap pieces with me just to show him, he did not like the fact that he was going to have to cut the old frame and install that piece.

|vajeeper1||The safe T cap part from auto rust technicians is part number 129, its the front trailing arm mount section, my right side is rotted out, I just received mine, part 129-R. You can order it online, but if you aren't sure, call them direct to make sure you are getting what you want. now to get it installed!|

|evilwhynot||I am looking on autorust and quadratec for the front trailing arms? which is located behind the front tires but I can not seem to find them. I can only find the rear trailing arm mounts for a tj.|

|Fireaxe||If you have access to a welder get to work and save / strengthen where u can, if it gets worse you may not be able to fix it.|

|evilwhynot||After further inspection it seems like it is only on the bottom half of the frame going to the front and back tires, where it starts to arch up for the tires is rust free on the inside and out.|

Rotting frame, need some advice.
Hey guys, I have a 98 tj that I am starting to notice the frame rotting in the front. I am wondering if I can save the frame by cutting out the bad pieces and putting new ones in from autorust or quadratec... what would you guys do? I live in New Jersey if that helps with prices for anything. From the first picture where it divides and goes up and down, shaped like a "Y" where it is rusting or rotting it goes all the way to the back to the same piece or it looks the same. It is rusting/rotting from the inside out. I can put my fingers in the weep holes and it is flaking pretty bad. Its like the whole bottom is like that. But where it has the "Y" in the back (picture #3), that is not rusting or flaking on the inside and is fairly good.
