Matt13 Ok I looked it up and it appears to be right on the Gila River. What I read says there aren't any remains besides the coke ovens which are across the river on the North side. I've been thru there a few times and never seen anything but the ovens. Funny enough I've been taking Cochran Rd without even knowing it. Too bad the town isn't there.

What is Cochran?
Cochran is an old abandoned mining town adjacent to the coke ovens. I believe it is located on the south side of the Gila, however. There is a Wikipedia page for it, but I cannot post the link as I am on my tablet.

Black_and_Tan Hope it's okay that brought up this old thread.

I am in Florence, Anthem to be exact - and I am glad to see others from Anthem as well.

Was out earlier today looking for Cochran, but no luck. According to the map, I was at the right spot; but, perhaps did not know what to look for. Any tips on how to actually find it?

Come ovens would be a welcome challenge if it is not too much for a stock vehicle.

Gothere Looks like Im going to have to bow out of the trail on Sunday, the wife reminded me of other obligations I had already had, plus I did not get hocks for the jeep yet so have a double whammie. But if anyone wants to do a meet and greet sometime after 4ish on Sunday.

Meet up and figure out a trail for the following weekend maybe??? Uncle Bears? or San Tan Flats? or ????

Ggomez21 I'm ready to go play in my toy. I'm going. For sure.

Gothere Still pushing for Sun. How bout we meet up on Hwy 79 and Price Rd. If you all would like to go out to Box Canyon area? As far as time wise, would like to get out there with enough time to play for the day but also wouldn't mind sleeping in a little that morning, say 9 or 10 am???

I've been out to Box Canyon a handful of times but stayed on the main trail, does anyone know that area and the trails out there, or is there another preference for a different area?

Quick poll, who is all thinking about going this Sun?

Matt13 I might be able to make Sunday. What time & where is the meet up?
10-08-2013 08:22 AM
Gothere Well threw out Uncle Bears as a possible Meet & Greet place, if were doing a trail would rather meet up out near the trail. Box Canyon area still sound good to everyone?

Ggomez21 Sunday is good for me. Still meeting up at uncle bears?

Gothere Well looking at a possible Sun. run out near Box Canyon area (Florence), have to do a maintenance shake down run so nothing too rough. I just got the jeep up and running after a SOA install with a SYE kit, a new rear axle, a new clutch, and a new rear Loc-Right. All new fluids too, so hopefully won't leak.

Anyway still have to buy and install shocks, and bleed brakes, easy stuff so I'm thinking I could get these things done today, drive it around on pavement for a day or two then hit the dirt this weekend...

Anyone up for Sunday???

Ggomez21 Hey guys, I was waiting for something like this. I just got a 05 lj all stock. I am definitely interested in going, but will a stock lj be able to do these trails? I am new to jeeps and wheeling but excited to learn what my jeep can do. Also when are you planning to meet?
09-30-2013 11:59 PM
clull05rubi I know the area pretty well. Box canyon coke ovens Elvis Martinez cabin up until the gate. Down 4 a meet n greet 1st also. Elvis then on2 box canyon is pretty fun and Elvis has some good challenges with bypasses available

Gothere I'm game for a trail too, but a little meet & greet to see what everyone has prior to picking out a trail would be good too???

Trail wise, how about something in the Box Canyon area, anyone know that area well?

Meet & greet wise, how about Uncle Bears on Rittenhouse?

Just throwing stuff out there....
