|1987Wrangler YJ||oh geez. Well I no im no going to be pulling that now. pulling it's own weight now its still a dog. 4.56's would seem the best option. what do you think would be pulling a smaller trailer with 2 dirt bikes be? That would be a most I would tow|

4.2L, 33" tires and 3.07's, pulling 2000-2500 lbs up a mountain?
I would say - not going to happen. Your gearing isn't set up for towing power, for the tires you have.
I have 31" tires and 3.55 gears, AX-15. When I still had the stock 4.2L (OEM carter BBD setup) I loaded it up with about 500-600 lbs or so of wood and camping gear. It drove like a dog on the freeway and barely made 55 mph once faced with any slight incline. Trying to push it caused pinging. On steeper inclines I was doing about 35-45 mph at best.
To put the gearing into perspective:
Yellow is for fuel economy
Black is for balanced economy/power
Blue is for towing/torque

|reno92||I wouldn't do it without trailer brakes. We have a short wheelbase, depending on how long the trailer is, the tail may be wagging the dog. Finally, you don't have the best rear end gears for those tires, I would want 3.73 at a minimum, you may make it but it won't be fun.|

|harleydragon||I learned a long time ago that pulling loads with a truck or whatever is not the problem..stopping is..a jeep doesn't have much weight plus the brakes are small|

|1987Wrangler YJ||I think my rear end would explode. why do you saying going down? the brakes arnt strong enough?|

|harleydragon||it would probably pull it okay on flat ground but mountains would probably be a different story...coming down the mountain might be even worse|

how much can one of these turds tow?
I have a dunebuggy/sandrail that weighs about 2000-2500 pounds with a trailer. I am wondering if this thing could pull it up the mountains. can seem to find it on google. My jeep is lifted 6 inches, 33s 3:07 gears 4.2L no engine mods
