What happens instead is the axle itself breaks just outside the carrier at the base of the splines or real close to it. Upgrading the C-clips or anything in that area wouldn't prevent much of anything from happening.
THIS^^^^ When my 35 gave up, it was the carrier that grenaded. The center pin punched through the differential cover and I replaced the axle all together. The C-Clips were in beautiful shape though...

C clips wouldn't scare me. 8.8's are clip axle. If 8.25's had
TJ brackets they would be a common swap, they are c-clip.

That said I've seen, been in, and youtubed enough wheel and shaft roll-aways on D35's to concur with the aversion to them.

I know Dana 35 rear ends are no ones favorite but I was wondering if there are and upgrade for c-clips for the axles because the the axle could be the strongest out there but if the c-clip breaks your screwed anyway! So.. just curious because I just ordered some G2 axles of 4Wheel Parts thanks
