skeeter Yep. Even a stock size tire will eventually damage the hinges.

JDeBlois Weight. When you have oversize tires, the weight pulls down on the tailgate and ruins the hinges over time. Also a swing away can have mounts for Gerry cans, hi lift, shovel, racks, etc..

Also in a YJ, TJ, and JK if allows you to do the flip down tailgate mod!

Spare tire bumbers

Somehow I'm missing the purpose or advantage of spare tire bumpers. It seems to only ad an additional step to access the cargo area. Can anyone shed some light?
