NAVYCHIEF pull out the part that goes into the tranny. it is a nylon gear. check it for wear. put it back in exactly how you removed it. or if needed install a new one. if it needs replaced, look around. do not pay over 25.00. some places want 100.00+.
are you reading any voltage on any of the three wires? you should on one of them.

Off.Road.Jeep Ok, so I found the it. Just like you said, 3 cables connected to the Left side of Trans. Connection looks ood, unscrewed off tranny to find the pin. It looked good. Traced wire to the OTHER side of the trans, connects to what looks like an iron pipe cap. Even found a vac tube that had come off. Gave it all the once over, put it back together and ... nothing. SO what might need to be replaced... the part that was between the wire connection and the trans?? the part i screwed off?? Thanks for your help guys

NAVYCHIEF what year jeep? look on the lefthand side of the transfer case. there is either a cable or an electronic sending unit. the electronic type has 3 wires on it. if it still has it's wires on it, look at fusing. oh, welcome aboard, old one.

speedometer cable

It took me 40 years, but I finally bought my 1st jeep. Shoulda done this sooner. Have a 2.5L "DUKE" with 4" lift and 2" hockey pucks. Jeep has been all off road until now. I want to get it street worthy, and learn to drive / ride it before I really go off roadin ... but I have already of course. Anyway, my speedometer was working fine, and then it just quit on me. There has got to be a cable on a tire somewhere, but not being 'real' mechanical ... I'm not sure where to look .. which tire etc ... I am not afraid to do the work, just need to know where to look, start.....anybody help me out? hope this site is as friendly and helpful as I hope ... Pics to come !!!!

Thanks in advance
