Notoriously_rob There are several threads online recommending changing the motor mounta, Didnt say you absolutely had too- the motor itself is $3799 so with $300 in injectors plus all the other stuff u said u did i think u may be low balling yourself. Thats 4099 with out your mods. Im jealous as heck though- just didnt seem to add up for me so i chose the atk replacement engine..it runs great
For my atk replacement i was 2500 for the motor with a $500 core plus i had toget a new header, bolts, sensors, so i was around $3000 without the tranny and clutch stuff..
Plus i have 3.07 gears--for now---so the golen woulda destroyed my rear end in no time lol

Jaydawg1967 You don't need new motor mounts for a Golen motor I just replaced my 4.0 with one and have no problems, worse part is buying new injectors. There around 300.00. I did a lot of extra stuff I didn't need to do though I ended up spending about 4000.00 by the time I was done.

USAF089 Thanks everyone! And its an '03. OPDA? Might have to clue me in on that one lol.
08-09-2013 11:18 AM
AtcoTrailsINC What year is you tj?

This sounds like a typical OPDA failure.

Either way best of luck to you I hope you get a good chance to upgrade

I dread the day my 4.0 gives up but 176k and still pulling strong even though I'm as little mean to her sometimes haha

Atk is 2k with a $500 core- free shipping to and from.
Anyway I could get a link to that ATK motor?

I think maybe we need an organization like this for our fellow Jeepers.
This makes so much sense! Especially for those stuck in the boonies lol

Savvy Off Road That sucks! I blew a motor once on the way to Colorado in a JK. It was a PIA. Thank goodness for the kind people in Utah! I'd go ATK or Golen for a new motor.

There is already an organization like this for motorcycles. It's called BAM.

What is BAM: Free Nationwide Motorcycle Breakdown & Legal Assistance

If a biker breaks down, anywhere in the country, he/she calls a toll-free number. They contact whatever volunteer is available and in the area. That volunteer goes out to the biker, and lends a hand. (Towing, bringing tools, etc.)

It's free to join.
The only requirement is that you be willing to help out a fellow biker, if the occasion arises, and if you are available.

I think maybe we need an organization like this for our fellow Jeepers.

jherrington Replacement from atk? (Something like that) is like $1700. That would be your cheapest route. Your more expensive route would be a v8 conversion. Lol
08-03-2013 10:49 AM
Dextreme Well, on the brightside is that replacement blocks are around $1500ish. A friend just replaced a tranny in her Acura and it was $5500 for just the tranny....so Jeep parts don't seem so bad. Still sucks though.

That would have been awesome! No way I could have ever repaid each one of them enough though.

Exactly.... Leave it to me, to break a bulletproof motor. Don't know what happened. Or how I done it. I was just driving it

NCN8 Typically usaa will only cover major breakdown issues if you have a mechanical breakdown binder. And when I had usaa they covered 60.00 miles or the nearest service station, after that was up to you and the company towing the vehicle.

larjeep Insurance will pay if something happened to the engine that made it blow Ike u hit something etc. also they cover towing.
08-02-2013 09:39 PM
Steve2012 Generally insurance doesn't pay for mechanical repairs, that is what warranties pay for.

Not sure what all is included in my insurance, so not sure about towing but that's a good thing to know for later!
