Thanks all great info, just what I was looking for.
I have pretty much all the tools except for the gear puller,is it really necessary?
I may get a quote from the mechanic I use for my work van and see if that makes or breaks my decision to do it myself.

I just replaced my pinion seal for the first time yesterday. I would strongly recommend an impact wrench for removing the pinion nut. I could not free it without one and I am a big guy. I got a electric impact wrench from Harbor freight for $44 and it worked like a charm.
You will also want a gear puller to get the yolk off, I borrowed one from autozone for free.
And dont expect the old seal to come out easy. I had to fight with mine for 45 minutes with a hammer and screwdriver and pretty much mangle it to get it out.

I did mine a few months back also...
I marked the nut and end of the pinion with paint and you're tightening it back up to where the paint line lined up.
Used a large pipe wrench to hold the yoke for tightening and loosening.
I just tapped the seal in with a hammer.

|YjKalamity||I did mine a few months back. You'll need a torque wrench capable of 255 ft lbs, a mallet, a large socket (the size of the seal) to pound the new seal in flush, a large plumbers wrench to hold the yolk while you torque the pinion nut, and a screwdriver/seal puller to pull the old seal. It's also recommended to replace the pinion nut.|

D30 pinion seal DIY?
So my front pinion seal is sweating not leaking and I wanted to change the diff fluid any way but not sure if I need any special tools to pull the yoke or seal or just pay someone
Any feed back would be helpful.
