mtb1997 Got the best wave today from a huge orange yj... It involved flailing of the arms accompanied by an intense head banging. That's the spirit!

I definitely will still wave at anyone (in a wrangler/modded XJ) who looks when I pull up next to them, but if they're stock it doesn't take more than a quick glance to *see* the jeep and then it's just kind of an awkward do-I-look-or-what-do-I-do-now kind of thing. But maybe that's just because I'm awkward in general.

Cross your eyes and mess your hair a bit. Then start drooling. Keep a football helmet handy for just these occasions! Then, start licking the window...that will pass the awkwardness.

99JeepNut The thing I find funny is I keep waving at Jeeps when I am driving my F-350 - just out of habit!

87.4% of statistics are made up...

If it is a Jeep with a removable top...Wave!!!
If it's a Jeep Cherokee XJ (modded)...Wave, out of respect for their enthusiasm for off-roading
If it's a Jeep Grand Cherokee (modded)...Might as well wave.

Some will say you only wave to Wranglers. It's up to you. If it's a Jeep and you can tell that they respect the name/brand and the lifestyle, why not show some camaraderie?

However, liberties get no respect from me as true off road rigs, lol. But that's just me.

Hummers...I will never wave to one. If it's a Humvee, that's a whole nother' story. But H2s and H3s...I return a one finger wave to those tools. But that is just my preference. Wave to whomever you want. Just wave.

PaulMcHale Coolest wave was at a light. We both pulled up at same time but a lane apart. She was a little cutie. I waved and gave my gome pyle impression. I can't stop when I'm driving a Jeep. She paused. I drove off.

Next light she pulled up two lanes over (I was turning) and waved with the cutest smile and "yeah, I get it, we are both goofy" look. She was from out of town. Older Jeep. It was just an awesome moment.

06t I wave at all Wranglers.
95% wave back!

Scruffy Wilson I wave at all wranglers. . and moded 4x4 if they wave 1st..

I have noticed that if you get to "excited" with your wave you will most likely scar a JKer away.. but if you do just a simple lifting of your driving hand they will do the same. . 6 of 10 if its simple wave back. . 1 of 10 if your to geeked..

TJs seem to respond with w/e you gave them.. be it the steering wheel, hand out windows or the frantic special wave.. 7 of 10 wave back

CJs-YJs really depends... if its stock and you are stock they wave but wont wave to a moded one.. same goes for modded cjs and yjs.. only seem to wave to other modded jeeps.. also noticed they seem to be the most excited about the wave of any model group. . 7 of 10

The Wrangler Wave

I know there have probably been a billion threads on this topic, but it's something that I would like to hear what the WF community feels about it.

I remember years ago riding around in my buddies new(to him) '97 tj and all 4 of us waving to other wranglers, it was the coolest little thing to be apart of!

Few things to get the thread started:

Do you give the wave to all wranglers or just TJs?

Anyone you specifically don't wave at?

Have you found any specific "stereotype" that doesn't generally wave back?

Rock Kicker Lol, so I must have looked like an idiot...
JKU pulls up behind me, then begins to pass. As he starts to get in front of me I notice his gas cap door open and cap hanging out. I start pulling up next to him at a light to tell him. I wave to get his attention, shout out the window, point, honk...the guy just wouldn't turn his head in my direction. He finally does as the light turns green, then just gives me the, "alright, alright, I'll wave..." Then floors it. He'll see it next time he goes to gas up, along with possible minor scratches from it slamming over and over against his paint...along with a possible bad seal, evap code on the engine light, or even just a plain ol' missing cap...I tried, buddy.

Daisy Stormtrooper I always get compliments on my JK from the teens at the drive-thru windows. (Don't judge my unhealthy eating habits! )
The other day, two kids were talking to me at the Chick Fil A window, and one said, "one of these days I'm going to get a Jeep like this!"
I smiled, told him about the Wave ("Google it--it's a real thing.") and his buddy pipes in with....(get ready...)

"Subarus do that too! Subaru drivers have a special wave to each other too!"

Yoga-Mud-Sand Thanks everyone. I was starting to get discouraged that I wasn't getting the wave returned. Some weren't even looking at me. But I've determined to wave at every jeep. I tell myself that I'm waving as a salute to the history and sacrifice of the jeep. Not the driver. If they return the wave or not is no longer as big of a concern.......BUT I SURE DO GET HAPPY WHEN THEY DO!

generally the more modded a jeep is the more people wave, im not sure if it makes them more noticeable or if it just changes peoples reactions but I have found it to be true.

Mad Mac Hmm. I too have had the impulse to wave to Jeeps when I am driving one of my non-Jeep vehicles. I'm new here, but maybe the Jeep wave should be expanded to include when not in your own Jeep. Then Jeep drivers would know that the other person is also a Jeep enthusiast, just not in their Jeep at the time.

Lol, funny timing. I got a wave from a school bus driver wearing a Santa hat today. Waved back out of auto-reaction then thought, did that just happen?
