rwhitmore74 I'm In Michigan and only have a soft top. Never had a problem with it winter.

crunky New England here... Right on the marsh in the armpit of Cape Cod.

I'd love to go to a soft top, but I'd have to take a few trees down in my yard before I felt comfy doing so. I get so many missiles and widow makers. I seem to be in the belt of these micro burst things that are popping up from time to time and snapping trees up 20 feet up.
I've got one spot in my yard that is safe and not within tree distance and the Denali gets parked there

My jeep only came with a hard top and hard doors. So I need to either find all the surrounds and hardware or buy one of the famous bow-less tops.

TrailbossNJ Been running soft top and soft doors for many, many years here in Jersey. Don't kid yourself: we get some brutal cold weather! Lot of snow sometimes too...wouldn't trade back to a hardtop to save my life!

I'm here in RI too and had my soft top on for the last half of winter this year and it wasn't bad at all. But my last jeep was a yj, so maybe I was just used to the cold. Also I never bothered checking the mirror laws until you said that but I've been driving with my doors off for 2 years now without a problem lol

freeskier With a frameless top snow build up isn't an issue.

All the NX series tops come with new factory style door surrounds.

TJDave The only reason to consider keeping the hard top is if your Jeep is parked outside, uncovered during the snowy season.

A TJ's heater is more than enough to keep you warm. I would keep the factory door surrounds just in case. Most tops use them.....in case you don't like the NX, or decide on something else later on down the road.

I also have an 04, and my hardtop has not been on it for over 3 years. But, it's not in my way and on a hoist in my garage. So, for now I'm hanging on to it.....well, my garage ceiling is.

OK. I don't know, it might. I thought they used factory hardware.
I could be wrong. I'm married, I've been wrong before.

lindel When I bought my 99, all it had was a soft top. I haven't ever needed anything else here in Chicagoland. I bought a frameless (Softopper) last year and never looked back. I still have the frame in the garage, in case I ever decide to go back to a stock top, but the frameless is working just fine.

SecretAgentMan 2004 Sport here in NJ. Sold the hard top when it was brand new. The winters in NJ aren't as bad as up there, but I don't have an issue in the winter. The Jeep is garaged, so snow won't build up on it for the most part. Also, the OEM top is a little heavier than aftermarket ones, so take that in consideration of my comments!

cchartrand Thanks for all the input! I think I'm pulling the trigger on that Trek top NX. Now I just have to convince my wife that we'll get the 500+ dollars back and then some once I sell the hard top and soft top accessories. Anyone in southern New England looking for a sweet hard top???

The heavy wet snow isn't as bad as long as you clean it off. Its the ice and freezing rain you have to worry about. Sure its louder and colder but that's not a big deal. I live in north east ohio. I put the hard top on in the winter. Its a pain but I also drive around with kids.

Ha! I was a Masshole for most of my life! How bad is the top w/ snow? You know, that real wet heavy s***? Did it stretch your canvas out?

Thanks man! NH??? Yeah, it gets ALOT colder up there! Not to mention the snow. I'm down on the RI/ MA border.

Thinking of going soft top only.

Let me give you some backround . I live up here in New England, and the PO of my TJ decided to CUT the soft top off! You read that right.....CUT. Must have been in a really big hurry to get the hard top on..... Or not that bright? A little from column A, a little from column B. My question to you guys and girls who live in cold/snowy areas is this..... Am I going to regret selling my hard top? I figure I can sell the hard top, the factory soft top hardware,( including door surrounds), back and side soft windows,( tinted and in great condition), and grab up a Trek top NX, American Outlaw side mirrors, AND put a little money in my pocket. I could have the doors off, be open air within a week! Should I do it? It gets awful cold and snowy up here in Jan/Feb. thanks for your help and opinions!
