keginthecloset Thank you all for your replys. Anytime i've had questions everyone is very helpful on here and I appreciate it.

I was suppose to get the Jeep Wedensday. We were meeting with the lady at the bank that evening. Well she called that day and said the loan won't go through because it is too old. Don't know how that all of the sudden became an issue because I was approved and had all of the terms it was just a matter of signing the papers. Oh well I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Good news is though I found one similar to it. It's a 2000 but it has more miles on it so it's cheaper. Good news about this one is it is a hard top so i'll just have to buy a soft top next spring. Some issues with it though.

- I've noticed a rust problem with the door handles on a couple of Jeeps I have looked at. This one is just starting to. Just paint it or buy covers for it? Is it a common problem?
- On the mirrors and on one of the brackets of the top there is corrosion. What is the best thing to do about this?
- I hate any signs of rust. It gives me the worst feeling ever. There is a little spot or two starting on the grill. Just buy a grill cover?
- This is the main issue I have. It looks like they hit something and it did some damage to the front panal on the driver side just above the tire. There is some rust there. The guy said he would have it painted for me but I am wondering if it would be better to just replace that whole panal.

Jeeper2 I have had a soft top jeep for last 7 years and what I have done is just don't keep anything that you would mind loosing in it. If they want in they will get in regardless hard top or soft. I would rather have them open the door and steal it than cut my top.

I use the same logic.

Levinoss Day to day stuff like cellphone, ipod, face plate I take in with me when I get out. Anything I can't bolt down I just don't keep inside the jeep for very long or I cover it up till I can get it out. Saves me 250 a year!

Sure, if you don't mind paying an extra $250 a year for $0 deductible as it would cost for me.

meyers When the Jeep got broken into about 1 1/2 years ago, it was winter and it had the hard top and full steel doors on it. And was locked. They punched a hole in the passenger door, popping out the lock. Then you can just reach in and pop the door with lever thats inside. They pulled down my dome light. Removed my stereo, with faceplate. After all it was safe the jeep was locked right Took my CD's and about 8 bucks in change. This right infront of the house while we slept inside. They then hit my entire street and no one noticed anything until the next day. Police told me I was lucky they didn't steal my doors !!! I thien bought tuffy door hinge locks to keep the doors safe and never leave anything inside it no matter if its the hard or soft top doors or no doors. Theives will get in, maybe if I had left it unlocked I wouldn't have had a 1/4 hole stabbed through my door and the lock broken..

NWPATJ I'm trying to make sure all my stereo stuff is out of the way. I have a 97' SE and that thing was stripped down when I got it. So far soundbar with 6 1/2, dash with 5 1/4, and sub console (not hooked up yet). But I wanted everything out of the way, out of sight out of mind. Where is a good place to hide an amp? I heard under back seat. But won't that get to hot?

Removable face plate is almost a must these days.

thanley Gotta agree with the other posts.

Leave nothing of value, and leave it locked.

I have a Tuffy rear expandable lock box, their glovebox, and their center console with locking stereo cover...and it's a godsend for peace of mind.

Before that, I didn't even like to leave my garage door opener in there.

I always run top off, so I don't even worry about the slashing, but you need to take steps to either purge it completely or lock it tightly in a Tuffy.

Jerry Bransford The above two posts saying to spend your $$$ elsewhere are right on. Few people pay any attention to car alarms any more and if you had the alarm installer wire it in so the engine couldn't be started if tripped, it'd just cause you problems later. I see posts all the time where people with alarms in their vehicles can't start them because the alarm system or how it was installed is causing problems.

Keep your Jeep empty of valuables and never EVER lock the doors with your soft top. Locked doors just means someone will slash your top or windows to have a look around inside. If you must keep valuable items in your Jeep, get yourself a Tuffy security glove compartment, console liner or storage box for the back. Made from steel, they are designed to keep all but the most determined thieves out.

Even a cop told me like 35 years ago to never lock the doors of my beloved convertible Triumph TR-6 sports car after he took my report of a slashed top. The owner of the soft top repair shop that replaced the top for me told me the same thing... just never leave anything of value inside so you won't have to worry about it.

Levinoss Keep it empty

njatrtljp no matter what type of alarm you go with its not really going to matter. I had one with a motion sensor and it worked great for me. the only thing I can say is dont leave anything valuable, or maybe anything, in the jeep and honestly dont lock it. If someone wants in the jeep they will get in better to just let them in the door and not worry about them cutting your top.

Think I found me a Jeep, question about security system

Found me a Jeep making it offical tomorrow afternoon.

It's a 2000 and it has a soft top. Since I will be driving it everyday my one concern is about people breaking in to it. Don't want a hard top due to $ so I am looking into some type of security/alarm system for it.

Advice on what to get?
