No matter how hard I try I can't get my tach to reach 60 but my 50mph is just under 60 on GPS at around 2500-2700 rpms in fourth depending on wind and inclineimes I forget I have a 5 speed because all I use is 4.
08-30-2013 07:37 PM
JeepReaper09 I currently have a 3" lift running 33x12.50. 4.0l auto with 3.73 in my '04 and I run about 1900 at 60-65 with O/D off. With it on its right about 3k. My jeep struggles to maintain 65 on the hwy unless O/D is off pushing 3k rpm. With it off it will kick down a gear to get to the needed speed, 65-70, but wont shift until i come off the gas which in turn slows me back down to under 60. Normal or unusual? Kills the already piss poor mpgs jeeps get.

Jerry Bransford I finally remembered to look at my tach tonight while driving 60 mph... my TJ was lugging at around 2050 to perhaps 2100 RPMs.

That is with the 4-speed 42RLE automatic, 4.88 gears, and 35" tires... which is why I always recommend no less than 5.13 and, better, 5.38 if you are running that transmission and 35" tires.

The engine was lugging so bad at 60 mph I had to turn the Overdrive off.

lindel Wouldn't hurt the engine to run at 3300 rpm for 6-8 hours. The 4.0 has some beefy main bearings, and it's a stout engine.
08-28-2013 05:56 PM
gregsjeep13 I just took mine out and I was at 2800 in 4th at 75 mph and 2300 in 5th at 75 mph. My speed was measured by Garmin since I have not replaced the speedo gear yet. Seems like there is about 2 to 3 hundred rpms different between your 4.10's and my 3.55 so I am guessing that 4.56 gears at 75 mph would be around 3300 in 4th and 2800 in 5th?? Would it hurt to run 75 at 2800 for long periods of time (say 6-8 hours) with a couple of stops?

That seems pretty good, maybe a little low in rpm's but I wonder how much different 4.56 gears would jump that up. Thanks for checking on that. I hope someone that has 4.56 gears with a similar setup will post their results for comparison.

Cool, thanks for the confirmation. I guess you can tell I'm not super technical on mechanics but definately learning alot in my first year in with my jeep

1800 rpm @ 5th gear at 62mph or 100kph

Originally I thought was was at 2200rpm at that speed but its been a while since I've bothered keeping track/driving at that speed. Am I doing alright for my results?
