Official Map Did Not Work
Responding to my own post...
Well I bought the "official" 2014 Navteq map update for $150 that Navteq said would work on my 430N. Tried installing it on my 2013 JKU with Firmware version 33.
Loaded the disk and it said it found a newer map and asked if I wanted to update the maps. I said "yes". Then it said it would overwright my existing map and might take 2 hours and was that O.K. I said "yes". It then took about 2 hours to load. When done, it reported that the map was loaded.
HOWEVER, when I tried to display the map, navigate, or do anything with navigation, it said that there was no map available... not even my original map. As far as I can tell, the map installation process did not "unlock" the map. So while the new map was was loaded, it was not unlocked, and could not be used. Turns out that as part of the map install, it is supposed to provide me with some Serial Number information and together with a code on the CD, I am supposed to get an unlock code to enter before it does the installation. But it did not show me the Serial Number information, or ask me to enter the unlock code. It just installed the map, but provided no way to unlock it.
Soooo, don't load the "official" 2014 map update on your 2013 Jeep until it reported as working and is being supported by Garmin and Navteq.

I have been debating about purchasing a 430N, but i want to load topo maps onto it.
I will be attempting to create a map file to load onto it.
Does anyone in canada(sorry i only have canada topo) happen to want to try a custom map load with me ?
PM me if interested.

Checking map update
Could anyone tell me how to see if 2014.40 actually installed?

Hi - I just wanted to confirm that the bug does exist on the $150.00 NavTEQ install as well, my Jeep buddy bought last week to update his wife's RHB he bought off that auction site and had to downgrade to 33.xx firmware, update map then went back to 50xx firmware.
Also, wanted to say Thank You!!! -- I just bought my 2013 Gecko Rubicon back on 1/19/2014 -w- 800 miles and I bought a used RHB unit after reading these forums to make sure it was PnP, upgraded my firmware to 50.xx.....2 weeks later found this thread and updated my maps for free (downgraded firmware and did the routine)
Loving my new Jeep, we just went for an Osceola forest trail ride last weekend. Two buddies @ work have 2013/2014 Rubicons. I kept my 94 Toyota Supra too though :O)

That's why I didn't want a nav system. I had no choice, cuz it was in the only manual trans JKU I could find.
We have a Honda Odyssey Touring w/ Nav... and maps for that were $199. At least they got smart(er) and knocked it down to $99.
But this at the same time you could buy a Garmin, with better features, transportable, and lifetime maps for what you pay for an update.
And we pay $1k for the privelege of a $150 annual fee if we wanna keep current.
That just aint right.

New 2014 "official" Map software released
To this point, this thread seems to be dealing only with loading 2014 Garmin maps onto our 430N units. Of course, this is not the way that Jeep and NAVTEQ intended.
A new 2014 map file is now for sale for 430N units. This is the "official" map file from NAVTEQ for factory Jeep installs, and has a very official price of $149.00. Expensive, but should install and work with no problems or software engineering required. As of today, the web site says there is no update for the 2013 Wrangler, but I called them and they said the web site is in error, and the update will work for the 2013.

|dvitous||Well.. we'll see what happens. Just dropped 50.00 on. Headed out in a few.|

|JSingr||I'm guessing it worked. Upgraded to 2010.40 but received an error at end. checked maps it is the latest and went into engineering mode and JCV is the latest. ran a simulator and JCV works as well.|

Well... I downloaded a different 2014.40 file, and when I put it in... it told me that it was an older(?) version of the maps, and did I want to revert. So maybe it did work, and the update just doesn't change file dates?
Still can't find a proper version. I think I found where the other poster was in the diagnostic menu, but what displays looks like map regions, and not a version header.

Well... it all looked good for me til the end.
Trying 2014.40 w/ D3060130A.JCV.
Showed 2 files to update... cranked through. Got the PCN Updated message, followed by "Maps Failed to Update".
I can't see a version anywhere - but the file dates on my existing gmmapprom file is like 2010? I dunno.. but its old.
I think the JCV file actually did update though.
Looking for another d/l of 2014.40 before trying again.

I had to downgrade the radio firmware back to 33 then reload the map upgrade with the JCV file, then upgrade the firmware back to 50.
It would not update only the JCV file.
All good now and works great.
Thanks to all who post, it really helps to review the posts to determine what other problems and solutions others have been thru.

how do I check exactly what maps on I have on the 430n now ?
I went in the about section but I dont know what to look for and I cant tell which map it is by looking there so far

You are correct:
"If your maps are original, a serial number will come with it. Otherwise, either if they are unlocked when you begin the upgrade a serial number for your radio will pop up. You'll need to note it and then go to a computer and use jetmouse to generate a serial number for your radio. This is a 25 digits serial number. You will then come back and enter the 25 digits serial number using your touch screen and once done the update will proceed."
Tested the upgrade, well tried with out having my laptop handy and was prompted for the serial number. I will download and prepare jetmouse.

You can't upgrade without going back to 33.
It's not JVC, it's JCV.
I think you could try doing JCV only. Create a Garmin folder at the root of your USB stick, then create a JCV folder inside of it and put your JCV file in that folder. Best case scenario it works, worst case scenario, it doesn't work and we'll all know it.

I recently upgraded my map files to 2014.10 and the radio firmware to 50. I did not include the corresponding JVC file D3060100A at the time I upgraded the map files.
Can I just upgrade the JVC file without having to downgrade the radio firmware back to 33?
If not and the radio firmware has to be back to 33 do you need to have both the 2014.10 img file and the jvc file on the dvd just to upgrade only the jvc file?

|JSingr||going to try this week..but noticed 2014.40 is out.. anyone try it?|
|02-09-2014 01:08 PM|
|fernboy61||Which 5.0 software are you talking about? If it is the 50.xx.xx, then you need to downgrade to 33 first, then upgrade maps and go back to 50.|

Okay so I tried to load the map rom that was "unlocked" and it give the No pnd update error or whatever . . .
Also when I loaded the 5.0 update that No pnd update came up on the GPS update screen but the 5.0 software still worked fine just not the maps. . .
What am I doing wrong?
Does anyone have any access to any other "unlocked" maps ?

Thanks for this.

You can go for a ride during the maps update. this is not a critical update and if you were to power the car off during the update, it would just resume where it was at when turning it back on. I tested it so you can believe me but I wouldn't do it on purpose though.
The critical update is the radio firmware update USE A CD only NO DVD USB Sticks. I personnally wouldn't go for a ride during this one. Chrysler fully recommend to do it with the ignition switch at the RUN position. Other ways to do it will work also but are not supported or recommended by the manufacturer.
If your maps are original, a serial number will come with it. Otherwise, either if they are unlocked when you begin the upgrade a serial number for your radio will pop up. You'll need to note it and then go to a computer and use jetmouse to generate a serial number for your radio. This is a 25 digits serial number. You will then come back and enter the 25 digits serial number using your touch screen and once done the update will proceed.

Scratch my last comment on the TSR, found it in a re-read of this thread.
Also saw a comment unlocked maps do not need key generated. Guess I will find out soon.
