NCJeepin To update this thread, I did go with the Super 44 and have no regrets. I love it. It is kind of droney at about 1600-1900 rpms but it doesn't bother me. It sounds great on acceleration and pops and rumbles when you exhaust brake. It sounds mean as hell. My friend that has a regular 40 on his truck wants to get a Super 44 now. Thanks to all who helped me make my decision.

MTJeepTJ I have the super 44 off road and took out my third catalytic converter. With the hardtop on it drones hard getting up to speed. Then quiets down. I like it still. the drone is not there with the top off by the way.

HotTotty I've had 40 series and super 44s on V8s and a 50 series on a jeep. If it were me I would get a 50 series or a super 44. All will be plenty loud at higher rpms but the 50 series or super 44 will sound better throughout the entire rpm range IMO.

JCharlet I just had a Thrush Welded installed and couldn't be more thrilled. Nice aggressive tone, especially once warmed up. 30 bucks for the muffler and 85 to have it professionally welded in. Great around town sound without drone at highway speeds (at least none I can hear over the wind and the tires lol).

You guys are making me want the 44 even more. I've seen a lot of videos on it and it sounds great!

That's good to hear. Is the Thrush Welded a copy of the original 40 or the 40 delta flow? Or do you know?

I agree, the 10 does sound sick but it's a little too loud for what I'm looking for. My Jeep is a DD and I wouldn't want to put something on that I get tired of or annoyed by.

I love the sound of the Super 44 but the only thing that's holding me back is the price of the other. I can get the 40 knock-off or Thrush for like half or less than the 44. I just don't want to cheap out and be disappointed in the long run. I did call Flowmaster and they said the original 40 would be more tinny and raspy on the 4.0l, opposed to the 44 having a cleaner tone. Both are comparable in loudness with the 44 having a slight advantage.

I've basically had my heart set on a Flowmaster Super 44 after listening to many YouTube videos. It sounds really awesome, IMO. Well, I went to the local shop today and they said they would weld it up and run all new pipe after the muffler for $60-65. He asked how much I could get the Super 44 for online and I told him about $80 shipped (Summit Racing). He said that was pretty high for a non-stainless muffler. I've searched most other websites and it looks like $80 is the going price. He then showed me his stock of mufflers which contained a few Flowmaster original 40s and a knock-off (can't remember the name) that he said was an exact copy since Flowmaster lost their patent. He recommended me to just get the knock-off 40 from him and I'll come out much cheaper (I forgot to ask him what it would cost for that ). He said there really wouldn't be much of a sound difference between the Super 44 and his knock-off of the original 40. I've seen countless videos and I have to say I do notice a difference between them. If I went the Super 44 route, it would be about $140-145 said and done. If I went the knock-off route, I'm thinking it would only be about $100 or maybe less. I looked up the dimensions for the 40 and the Super 44 and they are the same. Not really sure what all goes on inside to make the sound difference, but I do notice a difference. My buddy told me to just go with what the shop has (He got his Ranger done there and it sounds sick, but the muffler does say Flowmaster). What should I do guys? I'm kind of torn. Is the better sound worth ~$40 or will I regret it?

Note: I have heard that the Original 40 drones in the cab and the Delta Flow 40 came out to fix that problem. I haven't heard much complaint of the Super 44 droning. Also, for kicks and gigs, would a Magnaflow Magnapack 4x14 fit right with my setup? It's just straight through round and center in center out (I know the stock TJ muffler is center in offset out).

Thanks!

I put a Series 10 flowmaster on my TJ sounds great

Owen_TJ I prefer magnaflow over flowmaster...

i think it has a nicer deep tone than a flowmaster. I dont have any experience with thrush welded mufflers but if its a flowmaster copy, i'd still vote magnaflow

Flowmaster Super 44 muffler or cheaper original 40 knock-off?
