RedRockerJK13 Wish I could have made it. Had something come up so I couldn't go. But in a few weeks this guy I know and myself are hopefully planning to go to the badlands ,as long as he doesn't bail out on me . We were suppose to go before but he bailed. Starting to think hes one of those mall crawlers lol. I was thinking of sometime in the week of September 23.

WredTJ See y'all soon!
So far;
I'm meeting bmanz in my way down
Milani and 6inarow will meet us there

Red rocket, you coming? The other first timer just cancelled!

Anyone else coming?

WredTJ Here's what I sent the other newbie earlier today:

1) Read this, twice. It's like 45 pages or so with tons of pictures. But it is an ESSENTIAL starting point
http://jeepjamboreeusa.com/common-se...cca77024ba.pdf

2) Realize this an adventure and expect some fear, bumps, bruises, scratches and dents while having a GREAT TIME!

3) Have tow hooks (or equivalent) front and rear and make sure they are solid

4) Buy a tow strap or 2! 2 door Jeeps weigh 4,000 # and if you're stuck you'll need more than that. Buy loops NOT METAL HOOKS: HIGHLAND Heavy Duty Tow Strap with Loops, 2 In. x 20 Ft., 5,667 Lb. Load Capacity | Product Details | Pep Boys

5) CB radio. A near necessity. Gotta be able to communicate on the trails

6) Bring: tools, first aid kit, shovel, duct tape, extra car fluids, sun screen, insect repellent

7) Also: plenty of water, Gatorade and food! Double than what you think you'll consume.

8) Other things that I travel with that I feel are important but not essential:
Fire Extinguisher, tarp, emergency tent, wood to use with jack if needed, hiking stick

Remember, it's safety in numbers, not reliance on others!

Rocker, you can still pickup a cb. They do have an air pump. As of now I already will be mentoring a non forum first timer.

I'd love to help as many folks as possible but let's see if another member here can also help.

Honestly, though, you will need a cb. It gets boring for folks stopping and getting out every 5 minutes to coordinate and that will especially be required if new.

Maro35089 http://www.arizonarockyroad.com/ this is where I got my mount from
08-30-2013 02:01 PM
Maro35089 I have the cobra 29 Xl hooked up to a 103' whip antenna on a mount that is bolted in by the tire carrier mount. I get crazy too reception just have to be careful with tree branches
08-30-2013 12:33 PM
milani Ok, so I made it to Fry's and picked up a CObra HH 38. Good enough for the weekend. I was going to buy the cobra 75, but they didn't have any antenna mounts in stock. I put the doors back on for the weekend. Supposedly supposed to rain tonight into early morning so I don't feel like picking mud out of my new jeep all weekend :-). See you guys tomorrow at 9!

Are you shooting down 39? I'll be going 53/355 to 55 to 80. Seeing if anyone wants to caravan.

Also, the town bridge is out! Plan to approach from the west!

How much mud do you want to clean inside? How much splash do you wanna clean inside? I'm thinking off for this weekend but still mostly undecided.

WredTJ Great to know, maro. I need to find one and get a full size antennae to also mount trail flag!

I too run a Cobra from Amazon with a short magnetic antennae.

Nice! I thought it was overkill at first then realized how much more driving we did vs out and talking!

But for sure hand held so you don't install and can use anywhere!

WredTJ And buy a handheld! Simple and effective. Mine was like $75 with an antennae and perfect for the trails!

Ha, understood. Well if you happen to run across one pick it up! Will save us a shitload of time and getting in and out to coordinate and checking if clear, etc.
Trust me.
