I've stayed on Corova twice and ridden on the beach up there many times while staying in Duck or Corolla. People love to tell you to air down, but the locals who live there told me it isn't necessary. I followed their lead and have never had problems. I'm not saying it isn't advisable, just that the several times I've wheeled there I've never let any air out and I've never had any problems.
The last time I stayed down there it rained the whole way home which gave me care a thorough cleaning although I would recommend rinsing the undercarriage at the end of the week.

|Beachcomber||I take mine on the beach all the time with no problems. I do hose down the underside with focus on the u-joints. As everyone has mentioned stay way from the water. Have fun.|

I have been driving on the dunes for probably like 20 years...the main thing is to Stay out of the Ocean water! Yes, its tempting to drive through it and make a big spash. Don't!
The second thing is that after you get home from your trip, just rinse everything down. Get the underside as best as you can. Sand is less hard on your TJ than Mud is...so don't stress about sand.

|Jeeperscreeperstj||Thanks that's a good point...what about sand in the starter/ alternator and other open parts? Is that a major concern? Should I protect certain components?|

|Timberline||I wouldn't think that for only a week you will have to worry about any rust issues. That is mainly for prolonged periods of exposure to those elements. The only thing I would probably do is after each day of beach runs, I would visit a car wash and give my rig a solid spray down to get all the sand off and not let it accumulate over the week.|

Going to The Beach...Any Rust Prevention idea?
I am headed to ObX for a week and stayin at a 4x4 only access beach...it's gonna be a blast for sure but I'm a little nervous about rust...I thought about coating the underside with something that would grab the sand but wash off...like grease...I also thought of stretching a tarp under neath the jeep to keep sand from flying up into the underside...but if I did that would it tangle in the moving parts? Does anyone have any ideas?
