BTW, I deal with those probationed/paroled convicts every day... everyone needs a job right? lol shows why I do most of the work on all my rigs myself. I hate runnin into those guys outside of work makes getting a non-spit meal kinda hard

And I'm now going to back away from this conversation. I don't even change my own oil (and before Jerry and NavyChief get all disgusted: I know HOW to do it, I just prefer to let the nice paroled convicts down at the oil change place take care of it).

|foxinthemudd||so I looked up the steering box brace. I found one from Big daddy and one from Rugged ridge, both of the designes look similiar an input on which one I should think about? I know BD has a good rep and looks really stout I'm just wondering if for half the price would the RR one be ok to use. Either one looks to be better than the stock piece.|

can you post a pic or a link to what you mean? by brace? what are you reinforcing?
Is the J-20 box going to make it so I'm not turning 16 times to get one half a turn out of the wheel? lol (exaggerating a little there).
I really just want to make the steering a little tighter than it is. I'm not trying to get a performance car feel out of it but I just don't like the way it steers.

|KicknJeep||Hey fox if she doesn't already have one then put a steering box brace on it you wouldn't believe the difference it makes. Mostly because the box mounting bracket is very flexible/flimsy so actually a heavy duty P/S mount and brace sounds like what she needs. will definitely help..|

|1BLKJP||That box won't bolt into the CJ. The CJ is a 4 bolt box and the TJ/XJ/YJ is a 3 bolt box. The J-20 box should bolt right into the CJ if I'm remembering rightly.|

that is just the way cj's are. i busted my steering box and put a new one on and the new one was better, but not by much. if you want to do the durango upgrade it should work. from what i've read the durango box has metric thread on lines and so does the cj7. the durango box and cj7 box also seal with o-rings instead of inverted flair seals
you can also use the box out of a J-20, but it is not a direct bolt on though. to use the J-20 box you need to drill out a fourth hole in the frame rail.

steering upgrade for CJ7
I saw a posting on another few threads on different forums talking about taking a durango or dakota steering box and putting it on a TJ, YJ, XJ.
Do you think this would this work for a CJ? The CJ-7 that my girl has, has some of the loosest steering I have ever felt in a rig. any suggestions?
