For 2010 vs a newer model, I'd suggest checking out the interior, which got a make over in 2011. Personally I think the new interior is MUCH nicer, but I'm sure others disagree.

Not for Unlimiteds, according to Jeep (Jeep - Model Specifications), or most other sources:
2-door Saharas are spec'ed at 0.1 inch higher clearance than Rubis.... go figure??
Of course, it's just due to stock tire size. Changing wheels/tires throws all that out the window....

The rubicon versions have stiffer springs and gas shocks with 17" mud tires giving it a different stance... Buy yourself some stock rubicon springs mud tires and aesthetically they will look the same.
So stiffer springs will do it... If you look on ebay, Craig's list, you can find a set of 10th anniversary springs and shocks for around 175.00, that will lift the front a little more reducing the rake. That's my next project!

From the outside?
In 2010 (I think) the hardtop windows got slightly larger.
In 2011 painted tops were offered
In 2013 the Sahara and Rubi got different wheels
MId 2013, pinch seams were trimmed from the factory (hard to see anyway)
In 2014 clear front turn signals
Basically, they all look the same unless you know the finer details of Wranglers. It is probably easier to tell the year of a JK by the color (Unless it is black, white, flame red, or bright silver).

You probably want a 2012 or newer. Big difference in the motor and tranny. The interior was updated in 2011. Minor changes in larger windows on the hardtop (2012 maybe).
They are all good, I have/had a few of them (an 08, 10, 12, 13, 13, and 14). The 5 speed auto and 3.6 (starting in '12) makes it a more enjoyable daily driver.

Im looking at picking up a 2010ish wrangler unlimited, probably a sport or maybe sahara.
I really like the look of the 2013 rubicon unlimited. My question is, aesthetically they are very similar. Is there anything outside of wheels and tires that make them much different on the outside anyway? Any different ride height, wheel offset etc? I know the rubicon has much better off road parts, but I wont need that. My thought is pick up a slightly older sport and throw the 2013 rubicon wheel and tire package on it and call it good
