u dont have to remove the unit bearing from inside the unit.... u take 3 13mm bolts out of the back and peck the bearing housing and axel shaft all together.

pull wheel off. pull rotor off. remove unit bearing. pull axle shaft. replace ujoiint like a regular one. reassemble
the only part that tends to be a bitch (aside from the ujoint itslef) is pulling the unit bearing. i usually loosen the bolts, then (with the front end on jack stands) place a deep socket between the loosened bolt and a spot on the axle. then bump the steering wheel (with the engine running). basically, use the power steering pump as your press.
be careful when putting the shaft back in to not damage the axle seal.

frount drive shaft or axel either way u need to get the shaft out of the jeep and either heat it up and pound out the u joint or take it to a shop and have it pounded out

theres no cv joint on a yj.
check the axleshaft ujoints.
|08-12-2009 08:17 AM|
|morphious||not sure if they have them but could it be a ujoint going bad|
|08-11-2009 11:52 PM|
Have you looked at the CV?
Maybe the hub
|08-11-2009 11:24 PM|
|shermz||the mounts looked ok but i'll check tomorrow. the noise happens even if i'm going just 5-10mph and never stops|

knocking sound from front end, cv joint?
i'm a new jeep owner and new to the forum. i just bought a 94 yj that was sitting for a year. now that i'm driving it, i hear a knocking sound when i'm driving. sounds like its coming from somewhere near the drivers side front tire. my dad was thinking it was the cv joint for the front axle. also can i adjust the clutch, because sometimes she won't start even though clutch is pushed in.
