the only part that tends to be a bitch (aside from the ujoint itslef) is pulling the unit bearing. i usually loosen the bolts, then (with the front end on jack stands) place a deep socket between the loosened bolt and a spot on the axle. then bump the steering wheel (with the engine running). basically, use the power steering pump as your press.

be careful when putting the shaft back in to not damage the axle seal.

the outers are always turning, whether in 4wd or not. they will clunk whether 2wd or 4wd

morphious frount drive shaft or axel either way u need to get the shaft out of the jeep and either heat it up and pound out the u joint or take it to a shop and have it pounded out

knocking sound from front end, cv joint?

i'm a new jeep owner and new to the forum. i just bought a 94 yj that was sitting for a year. now that i'm driving it, i hear a knocking sound when i'm driving. sounds like its coming from somewhere near the drivers side front tire. my dad was thinking it was the cv joint for the front axle. also can i adjust the clutch, because sometimes she won't start even though clutch is pushed in.
