Now, I'm sure you're wondering about the little ball valve on the end of the larger filler tube that you just cut off. As far as I know it's only purpose is to float up & cause enough back pressure to make the pump at the service station kick off after filling the tank to 15 gallons. IT IS NOT THE ROLLOVER VALVE, as some may believe. In the photo to the right, My Jeep was almost completely on it's side. I had a full tank, and not one drop spilled.
Good enough for me then. I thought it was for that but if it's not I wish I had cut it off and got the larger fuel pump while I was replacing it.

Our filler neck doesn't look like that, at least not on the 98's. I checked it out when I had my tank dropped and it didn't have a long filler neck like the YJ's in those links. Mine was close to the top of the tank and just had a simple bobber that would close the hole when it was full.

Doesn't have that on the inside of our 15 gal tank.

Replacing the 15 gallon gas tank

The '98 TJ's have a 15 or 16 gallon tank....does anyone know if the newer 19 gallon TJ tanks can be fitted in place of the 15 gallon tank reasonably easy?

thanks
Bill J.
