4Jeepn Most likey they didn't set the o-ring/gasket for the tank right. Mine went bad and I smelled gas as well.. That was the fix. They should have a way to fogg the area to see if they see gas vapors etc as I recall.

katjeldav We only smell it when the rear window is up.. the dealership told us that it was coming from the exhaust.. told us that we needed a tune up... we did the tune up... no change.. still strong gas smell.. It was running great before the tune up.. maybe a little smoother now..

We drove it all over Moab and AZ before we had the fuel pump/sending unit replaced. It was not starting the first try and needed the fuel pump replaced... Once it started it was running great with no gas smell..

The gas smell started after the dealership replaced the fuel pump.

katjeldav No check engine light.. I am going to insist that the dealership look AGAIN.
Last time, all they did was use a mirror to check for leaks. I am going to make them drop the tank this time. Thanks for the suggestions...

tlrrob1000 Doesn't matter, if it didn't smell like gas before and now it does it needs to go back. Do you have a check engine light?

Gas Smell

We recently had our Fuel Pump/Sending Unit replaced on our '97 Wrangler..
It reeks of gas from the back. We had the dealership check it and they indicated that they could see no leaks.. that maybe we needed a tune up.
We did a tune up and it is running great... but the gas smell is bad!
Did the dealship screw up my installation?? Any ideas? Thanks!
