Runner750 Finally took the plunge and dipped my wheels. Love the new look. Didn't have a jack or lift to use so I did the wheels on the vehicle. Cleaned them really well first off. I didn't want to take a chance on dip on my tires so I tried the card trick first. For whatever reason some of the cards would not stick in around my wheel so I found something better. While reading some on the dipyourcar forums a guy told about buying a roll of Carpet Shield at Home Depot. Its a clear plastic that has adhesive on the back. A 100 foot roll was only $11 and change. Just unroll it on your tire, take a razor blade and cut the wheel out and you're ready to dip. Also another trick for painting on the vehicle is to take a trash bag, cut a slit down the middle of it, then stuff it in the holes of the wheel to cover the brake rotor. Works very well and you can wrap it around the rotor with ease. The hardest part of the whole job for me was taping up the lug nuts. Make sure you get 5-6 coats on the wheel. Downside of doing it on the vehicle is not being able to see the bottom part as well so make sure you get it covered good.

TJ Jeep Girl My rims looked really terrible from brake dust etc. Half of the clear coat was already off. Original rims on a 97.

Tractors4u I shot mine directly over the clear coat in case I got tired of it later. I did clean them good and then wiped them down with alcohol. Index cards work great. I tried masking one tire but the cards were easier and quicker.

TJ Jeep Girl Just did my rims this past weekend. Make sure you use a stripper to take the factory clear coat off, then wash with soap and water. We also used a primer before hand. TIP: use index cards between your rim and tire and you won't get the over spray.

soap and water should work, just be gentle.
Thanks Billy!

Tractors4u I saw someone ask about getting bugs off of a grill that has been plasti dipped and whether there was a problem getting them off. If it was answered, I missed it. Has anyone got experience with getting bugs off of as plasti dipped grill?

I was totally gonna try the grey on my tires but I thought the taping off of the tires and behind the rim would be a nightmare. make sure to post some pics if you go with it! Good luck

AMilton After you apply the dip to the hinges and remove the masking tape, open and close the door before the dip is dry.

Swick I just sprayed it all and then took a razor blade and cut around all the parts that would tear when it moved.

Bdubya73 Without reading through all 85 pages to check the hard way, has anyone dipped their hinges? And what proved to be the best way to keep it or get it out of the moving part area so it doesn't just wrinkle or tear? Thanks.

For those who are familiar with the glossifier, I'm looking for details on its coating properties. Is it just basically a shiny clear Plasti-Dip, or is it something thinner that simply soaks in and glosses up the previous coats of dip?

In other words, let's say I decide I want five coats of dip on my application. Would four coats of orange and one coat of glossifier give me the same durability? Or does the glossifier not work that way? I read one comment somewhere in this thread that said it does peel off like regular dip, so I think that almost tells me what I want to know, but I just want to be sure before I place my order. And is a single coat of glossifier enough to give the color coat its shine, or do I want a few coats of that as well? 3&2? 4&2?
It's glossy plastidip, aka, another layer, so it counts towards durability.

Bdubya73 Dipped this week. Super easy, and the wife liked it so much I had to spray her subaru outback rims. We are a dippin family for sure. And I'm not done. I want to do the door hinges and jeep logo. Thought about dippin the antenna but not sure if it will affect the reception. Heck I may dip the dog.
