No stick poking, but not fun getting the remains in a body bag.

chucky cheese I think there is a law. If you come across something dead you must poke it with a stick. I have always done it. Some times the thing is not dead. I thought my uncle Ernie was dead.
He was lying on the ground with a cigaret butt in his mouth and an empty can of beer lying by his limp hand. I called to him and he did not move. So I poked him with a stick. He kinda mumbled, farted then opened his eyes and asked me if I was trying to kill him. I told him no. I thought he was already dead. But if he was dead I would have had the coolest show and tell thing brought in!

Thanks! I didn't notice it until I held my phone at about arms length. That is creepy for sure.

Yes I looked at them and each Polaroid before scan you could see something, after the scan there appeared a lot more when you zoomed in. Example: if you look at my sisters left bicep area, you can see what appears to be a woman in a red top.

Yes, I still hear and see things. One house we were planning on renting, my wife and two boys. The landlord was walking us through and saying all the great things about the place. We got to the bathroom and I saw an old man through the mirror standing right behind my wife. He was looking at her furiously. I knew then we would not be getting the house so I asked the landlord who was the old man and is there a history of attacks on women? The landlord got mad and asked had we been talking to the neighbor before she pulled up? I said no, but I was going to talk to her now that she mentioned it.

We walked next door as the landlord left in a spray of gravel and an old lady came out and said she was glad we weren't getting the house and told us of the old man who's wife left him and he blamed all women for anything and everything bad that happened to him. He was found dead in the bathroom from a heart attack. All of the previous tenants who were female spoke of being pushed in the shower, the water turning to hot and seeing someone in the mirror directly behind them.

I think there is something from the farm following me. When I move, for a few weeks it's quiet, then we will hear things like a door closing or what sound like the dryer door being closed. It used to be we couldn't keep cats. The cats would suddenly hiss and spit, arching it's back while looking into the bedroom or a room where nobody was and run under the couch. We would open the door to the outside and if we weren't careful, the cat would run away.

m998dna In the house I grew up I experienced something odd, but very real. I usually don't discuss these things because they are irrelevent to me - I view them as insignificant happenings. But I have a sister that believes different.

I decided one night to sleep in the family room.. we built a large room with an open beam celing as an add on.. 20x30 with two sliding glass doors on opposing sides. On this one night, I had the sliding glass doors open.. the screen doors shut, allowing the warm night air to fill the room. It was dead silent, hot night, the air was still and quiet.

I fell asleep...

Suddenly I was awakened about 2:00 AM by a strong gust of wind that blew through the room.

As I lifted my head from the pillow, I couldn't move my body.. I was paralyzed.

I tried to move my legs and arms.. but I couldn't move a muscle. It was like being tied down to the bed - all I could do is move my head back and forth and watch what was happening.

The strong breeze subsided and after a few minutes.. struggling and trying to move, I quietly fell back to sleep.

My sister thinks it was my grandfather visting again during troubled times.

She claims to have seen him in the house before as we grew up - my mom's dad died when she was 14. She thinks he comes and visits my mother to make sure she's safe.

As for me... I don't know what happened that one night.

brandon-99tj Thank you for sharing your story!

Halgarre I've sat here reading the stories debating about telling a few of my own. Banging and I have a lot in common, my Grandmother said I had "The Gift". Personally I don't consider it a gift. I enjoyed reading Banging's stories and saw how he wasn't mocked that I could share a couple of stories.

I grew up on a farm right on the borders of Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia inside the Cherokee National Forest. That area had a lot of blood spilled even before the first settlers arrived. The land where our double wide trailer stood was an old foundation to several previous houses that had burned down. In both cases the father had murdered his family, set the house on fire and killed himself.

There was a boy that I played with, My Mom said he was my imaginary friend until my Grandmother was going to spend the weekend with us and that night she had a bad experience with a woman and a little boy. The next morning my Grandmother had a talk with my parents while my two sisters and I were told to go play. Soon after that my Grandmother came outside and asked if we saw people who didn't live with us and we all begin talking about the woman, the little boy and my sisters spoke of the black man, but just his face was black and he had really big eyes. Up till that point I had never seen nor heard of him.

My Grandmother told us to be very careful and if they wanted us to follow them to not do it, she then made us promise. She got in her car and never stepped foot on our land the four years we stayed there.

Sitting here typing this out is bringing memories I've not thought about in years. I remember waking up in the mornings being tired and my pajama bottoms being muddy and grass stained from my knees down and my bedsheet being dirty. My parents took me to the doctor who diagnosed me with sleep walking. He told my parents to install a door safety chain higher up on the doors. That didn't stop me, I would still wake up muddy. My Dad then put deadbolts on the doors, and the next morning I was muddy again and the front door was open.

The next night my Dad said he was getting to the bottom of how I was getting out. We all went to bed like normal and my Dad was in the living room with a book and the lamp on. The next part of this is from my Dad's perspective. He was sitting there reading and he had this weird feeling come over him like there was somebody in the room with him. Where he sat in the living room he could see all the doors in the trailer. I slept in the middle bedroom beside the washer and dryer. He looked at the clock on the end table beside him, it said 3:22am that's when the lights went out. He pulled his zippo lighter out and tried to get it to light, it wouldn't. He stood up to get the flashlight and the lights came back on.

All the doors were open, every window was open, including the one his back was just a few inches from. He ran into my bedroom and I was gone. He yelled for my Mom to wake up and he went to the front door and saw me walking down the road with someone the size of a small child. He said the moon was about 3/4 full so there was plenty of light. He yelled for me and I kept walking we passed through a shadow of a tree and when he caught up, it was just me.

My Mom has an old Polaroid that spits out the photos, in almost every photo there is something weird. I used to watch her take photos, shake them and when they developed her face would sometimes go as white as a sheet and she would burn the photo. I remember the woman ghost hating my sister. She would sometimes have fingerprint bruises on her arms. The last Christmas we lived there my Mom took several photos and she showed them to Dad after we went outside to play and gave him an ultimatum: we move in the next month or she was leaving him and taking us kids. Dad agreed and we moved New Years Eve, into a small house in town. Three days after we moved the trailer burned to the ground, there was no electricity going to the trailer. They said the fire started in my sisters room and it was so hot it warped and melted the frame on that end of the trailer

My Mom asked me to scan and upload some old family photos. I came across an old shoebox with some Polaroids in it and I saw it was the Christmas '75 photos. I started looking at them and I know why Mom would burn them and be scared. Here is one of the photos of my sister.

Bartholomew stayed with me for the rest of the time I lived on the farm, my parents finally made the decision to move to North Carolina and the last time I saw him was the night before we left the farm for good. I remember that night vividly. My mom use to come into my room and sit down with me till I would fall asleep when I was little. I remember she came in and I told her she didnt have to tonight, Bartholomew was with me. She would always sort of cringe and walk away (your crazy child is comforted by the dead). He didn’t say much, most of the time he would tell me stories of cows and the farm, but this time he just laid next to me as my mother had done so many nights, his presence was comforting, he was always like an extra security blanket to me. He sang his song and at the end said "good bye little one". I have always wanted to take a trip back to the farm, I have heard the farm changed hands frequently after us. I would love to know if I could see him one more time.

Jack, stayed with me the longest, again as I grew up I didnt see him as frequently. I would see him in my dreams and I saw him in times of real need. My father had major medical problems and whenever I felt vulnerable and scared He would come to me and calm those anxieties. A couple times he showed up while wrenching on my jeep or dirt bikes in the garage. I still find it weird and a blessing to be able to have talked to a grandfather I never “got” to meet. When I graduated High school and received my diploma, I remember looking out to where my family was seated. I saw my father, Jack, and my grandmother next to him. I remember his one handed thumbs up while waving his navy hat in the air. I never told my dad what I saw, but I did ask him what he thought of the ceremony. He told me he loved it, but he kept feeling cold and getting goose bumps. I think that’s just the body’s senses identifying the presence of something it cannot understand, that’s just my theory. 2 years ago my grandmother passed. I gave a speech at her funeral, my grandmother was a very influential person in my life and practically raised me for 9 years every summer. I remember during my speech starting to break down. I looked at my dad for strength to get through the last paragraph. Sitting in the empty seat that had been mine next to my father was Jack, he smiled, and nodded “you can do it” is the words I heard. I looked at my dad and smiled, finished my speech and glanced back to my which now sat empty. That was the last time I saw him.
I've been reading bits and pieces of this thread for a while but somehow only saw bangingears' posts today. I had a similar, though singular, experience with my own grandfather. The condo I grew up in was actually next to two separate cemeteries, so I've got more than a couple home-grown ghost stories... (Sorry, this isn't a trail story)
My paternal grandfather died quite some time before I was born, and I hadn't been exposed to anything more than military portraits from his youth around my grandmother's home, or our own, so had no idea what his elderly visage had looked like.
But one night I was lying in my bed - couldn't have been older than four or five - and couldn't sleep. I fell asleep every night to the radio set on a timer to turn off after a set period of time (I think an hour) so that it didn't play through the whole night and wake me or anything. I slept very easily and very well as a child, so nights like this were rare. I remember growing increasingly frustrated that I couldn't sleep, and when the hour had passed and my radio clicked off I remember this little jolt of panic at the silence, and further frustration that I still wasn't even remotely sleepy. And then my grandfather (who at that point I could only identify as a slender elderly man because I hadn't seen any photos of him looking that aged) appeared at the foot of my bed. He sat down on the edge of my bed and I actually FELT my blankets shift under the weight and put a hand on my knee as if to comfort me, and a moment later he was gone. I honestly don't even remember falling asleep that night, but it must have happened almost immediately because I don't remember lying awake after the incident, only prior to.

Lurch72 Okay, not really creepy or strange but here's a funny trail storry. I was out on a 4x4 four wheeler near my parents home.i had just started up a hill when i notice a skunk ahead on the path. I had never seen a wild skunk before till that day. I slowed to observe him for a moment, he seemed completely unconcerned with me and continued slowly up the hill. After observing the critter for a couple of minutes I gre bored and was ready to continue so I edged up closer figuring he'd runoff the path. Nope. Tail up in warning, i back off. Beep the horn. Tail up. Needless to say it took 15 minutes to top the small hill to the next trail. Don't mess with skunks....

Funny you talk of strange happenings up on the North 12 4x4. While awesome and packed with families on vacation, a lot of "activity" occurs on that stretch of beach. Less in recent years.

sgpd1sam The cops would rather come out and have it be nothing than have nobody call and find out later a crime was committed, that might have been stopped had someone called. My gut feeling is that in some of these, if true, alcohol was involved, if you get my drift. :-)

Scythian Agreed NFGZ, only I'd leave out the "lol". They just captured a serial killer here in Indiana (Gary, who'd a thought) and all it takes is a phone call about something suspicious to save a life. I mean, you see two guys and girl go into a place and then two guys and rolled up carpet come out and don't make a phone call? That's incredibly callous toward your fellow man. Sorry, but another guy saw a man a woman go out on a little boat and then later only the man comes back. I could go on and on and never a thought about calling the authorities from our fellow Jeeper's?

I think at this point I'd feel safer riding with the Hell's Angels rather than a local Jeep group, my guess is at least they'd have my back ...
