|morphious||yeah it was one of those ideas i had sitting in the garage on my chair looking at the jeep and the old burban out back. its probably just to much work but on that note as far as wide goes I'm used to a full sized k5 with 12.5 tires. so the jeep seems too narrow, but with that said i also can make it through quite a bit of stuff with it. so i dont know i'll hold out for awhile for a good set of dana 60's. a guy up the road from me had some under his cj7 and it looked wicked with those and 39's on it.|

I have been thinking about trying to get some Chebby D60's.
I read that it's possible to adapt a D-300 t-case to an AX-15.
This would give me the passenger side drop.
Personally I wouldn't go through all that for D44's though.
A front D44 is only marginally stronger than a D30.

|tbeede||its going to be wide and you're not really going to get a big step up in axle beef... yeah they are heavier duty but not by enough for the work... think about all the other issues like wheel bolt pattern, steering, etc... etc... this is the type of idea that sounds like fun when ur drinking beer and snowballs into lots of time and money before you know it and the results might not have been worth it depending on what you're looking for...|

|morphious||well i wasn't going to do the rear 10 bolt but yeah. I'll probably just have to figure another way to get me some full sized axles. i really want to do spring over conversion but i want to put full sized axles under their so its all done in one shot.|

|whitebuffalo||dont older chevy's use the push/pull steering setup? if they are, you'll need more than just a drop pitman arm. and werent they still passenger side drop in the mid-80s? if so, you're gonna need a new transfer case as well.......|

|Pylonpounder||If it helps, I believe 72 suburbans, and those of the same generation as the 72, have 14-bolt rears..|

|morphious||oh i wasn't going to replace the rear with the 10 bolt i was just excited for the dana 44 was planing a 14 bolt or maybe just a 12 i don't think i will need a 14 but then again bigger is usually better|

|4Jeepn||The 10 bolt is the dana 35 of the chevy world.. don't waste your time and energy.. Go find a 14 bolt for $300 and be happy with life.|

|morphious||so on a update i found a 10 bolt in the rear and a dana 44 up frount on the old burb it least I'm pretty sure that's what it was so the biggest hurdle now is getting my old man to let me tear her apart for the axle but my question now is if i put that under my jeep i know i need a drop pitman arm but what else (other then sye)|

|morphious||well the chart says the dana44 and the 10 bolt run the same ring gear size and does spline count matter that much i mean i have dabbled in axle stuff before but only to fix things and i think its only a few short of the 44 spline count|

|whitebuffalo||from what i've heard, the 10 bolts were on the weak side. someone else should probably chime in on it though. it might not be worth the trouble of swapping in full widths for a pair of 10 bolts.|

|morphious||ok yeah i think ur right on the 10 or 12 that's what i think they looked like now how good are they in comparison i know their probably better then the dana 35 under their right now but in terms should i hold out for a dana 44 or would these work OK for what i want to do|

rear could be a 10 or 12 bolt. the front is probably a 10 bolt (assuming its a half ton 'burban)

ok so I'm thinking about doing some fun stuff in the next couple of days. but i need to know i have a old 85 chevy suburban 4x4, what axles are under it i looked around but found nothing on this. i would like to put the axles under the yj with a soa and maybe eventually even the motor but i dont know if those are the dana44's or not. i know their not 60's for sure but i want dana 44's any help with this would be great.
