Tj's look like jeeps should(up and down grill,not slanted!!,mostly metal not cheap plastic,not 4 doors or extremly long,nothing against a scrambler though!) and have just enough comforts!! JK's dont look like jeeps anymore, I mean when i see a 4 door coming at me down the road I think its a HUmmer!! also the big stupid plastic fenders need to go!!!

Definitely consider the mileage you are running. I drive about 40 miles a day, I am looking getting a gas friendly POS as a second car.

TOW II OK, I see now that the TJ are ’97-’06 and the JK are ’07 to current. I’m sure that I’d be fine with a JK and that’s what I hope to get, but judging by all the posts here in the TJ forum, sounds like I’ll be happy with low mileage TJ too.

2. get a TJ(JK's are to regular car/suv like) 97-06
3. get a 6cyl
4.check for rust!!!
5. the 4.0 is the best motor jeep will ever make, yes the 3.8l has a little more horsepower, but you hve to reach very high RPM'S to get the extra HP while the 4.0 reaches it max at much more resnoble RPM'S

InfernoGirl No need to spend the extra on a Rubi, if you don't plan to seriously offroad, an X or sport model should suit your needs well. Both are quite capable in stock form offroad. Nothing wrong with the auto's, and I believe they are available in all models. Lots of folks like the ride of the longer wheelbase LJ (2 door unlimiteds) '05/'06 I think. I have a TJ and don't mind the ride at all, but I'm not really a sedan kind of girl . I don't know much about the JK's engine wise 3.8L I6 iirc. But I've heard nothing but good about the 4.0L I6 in the older Wranglers.

Seeking Advice for a New (to me) Purchase

Im getting ready to purchase a Wrangler. This will be my first ever Jeep, or 4WD for that matter. It will be used mostly to do my daily 40 mi. round trip commute to work. Im looking forward to using it on dirt roads, but doubt that it will ever see any serious off-roading. Of course Id like to buy a new one, but in my price range I might have to go with a slightly used one. Dont want to spend over $24,000. Id like to get something in the middle between the high-end and low-end models, but I dont know which model that would be. Id appreciate any advice on which model that I should zero in on, ie; new base model, X, Sahara, Rubicon, My only must have is an auto trans (which may rule out a base model). Also wondering if there are any concerns between the newer v-6, and the pre-07 six.
